Biosolids Dewatering & Energy Recovery Project
8
Cost-effective: IRWD customers save up to
$288 million.
Green and sustainable: biogas used to
fuel facility.
Biosolids are processed into pellets and
beneficially used for fertilizer or fuel.
Provide facilities to meet future solids
handling needs.
IRWD Biosolids and Energy Recovery Project
• IRWD to construct facilities at MWRP for:
Centralized biosolids processing
Biogas management & energy recovery
Odor control system
• IRWD reduce solids treatment costs.
• Maximize renewable resources and minimize environmental impacts from residuals.
Project Objectives:
9
10
Major Biosolids Project Components
• Biosolids thickening, digestion, & dewatering
• Drying to produce pellets for local beneficial reuse
• Biogas conditioning
• Microturbines for energy production - Use at MWWP
• Three-stage odor control system plus RTO for dryer
• Recycle Food Waste/FOG to generate biogas and generate energy
