I am so excited to release the pre-show program for the American Med Spa Association’s first national trade event, The Medical Spa Show! This event has been a long time coming, and the AmSpa team is thrilled with the program that has been developed. We are bringing together the top medical spas, industry professionals, and educators in the industry to provide something that the medical aesthetics profession truly needs, and has sorely been lacking: a conference exclusively for medical spas, by medical spas.

As many of you know, here at AmSpa we like to do things a little differently. Our goal has always been—and always will be—to advance the industry through business-building and compliance. We want everyone to be profitable, so we’ve brought together some of the top medical spas and aesthetic centers in the country to offer their secrets on how to build a successful practice. Along with that and equally important, we want the industry to be safe. Because of this, extensive coverage of the laws, the emerging legislation that will impact the industry, and best practices to keep the industry growing at its current pace will also be offered.

In the enclosed pages you’ll find a program that we hope you’ll be as excited to attend as we are to put on. In developing the course schedule, the goal was for it to be a truly beneficial tool for you. I’ve been to far too many conferences where attendees have been underwhelmed by the content—where they left with only one or two pieces of new information to implement into their practices. AmSpa believes that a conference should be full of great material, and that every class should offer benefits—not just one or two.

With that in mind, we spent the past three months conferring with the top medical spas and aesthetic centers in the country to determine what they wanted to learn at this conference. Because make no mistake about it—this is your conference.

And please don’t forget that one of the primary reasons we’re putting this conference on is to bring the industry together. I’ve found that the best education can often come from the exchange of information, so plenty of time for networking and socializing (and partying! It’s Vegas, baby) has been built in. And we’ve already got commitments from most of the top medical spas in the country, so I assure you that February 9-11, 2018, at the stunning Aria Resort & Casino is going to be THE place to be if you’re in this industry.

Please reach out to us if any of you have any comments or questions. Our hope is that this conference will be on your calendar every year from this day forward, so please let us know your thoughts. Also, if you haven’t signed up, please do so right away – we have a hard cap on attendance and we’re already 50% sold out! Thanks to all of you who have already signed up and I can’t wait to see you in February at The Medical Spa Show.

MORNING SESSIONS: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH, 2017

GENERAL SESSION8 – 8:30 am: Welcome: State of the Medical Spa Industry Speaker: Alex R. Thiersch, JD

The medical spa industry has become an industry unto itself that needs its own definition, its own resources, and its own data. It can no longer be considered a subset of plastic surgery or cosmetic dermatology, especially because more than 70% of the doctors in this industry are non-core. And while there is a growing overlap with the spa industry in terms of customer service and marketing, medical spas have vastly different price points, more advanced available technology, and unique legal and regulatory challenges. It is an industry that, by itself, generates nearly $4 billion in revenue a year; that has doubled in size during the past five years; and that projects to double again by 2020 is clearly worthy of its own categorization.

8:30 – 9 am: Medical Aesthetics Legal Landscape: Where We Were, Where We Are, Where We’re Going Speaker: Alex R. Thiersch

The medical spa and medical aesthetics industry has come a very long way since its inception approximately 20 years ago. And although the medical spa industry is making strides to become more compliant and more consistently regulated, there is still a long way to go. Based upon the different data points, it can be safely said that most medical spas are operating non-compliantly in some fashion. AmSpa estimates that no fewer than 50%—and it could arguably be much higher than that—of medical spas are violating the law in some fashion.

9 am – 9:30 am: The Medical Spa Success Eco-System Speaker: Tim Sawyer, Crystal Clear Digital Marketing

Medical spas and medical aesthetic facilities are vastly different than both the medical practice and the traditional spa business model in a number of ways, most importantly in its business aspect. Although regulated like a medical practice, in order for medical spas and medical aesthetic facilities to be successful, they must embrace the reality of retail medicine. In order to do this, they must develop a medical spa success eco-system, consisting of:1. Outside marketing; 2. A profit-driven team; 3. An in-depth consultation process; and 4. Package development and upselling.

9:30 – 9 am: The Top New and Evergreen Treatments for Your Medical SpaSpeaker: Terri Ross, Lasky Aesthetics & Laser Center

Treatments are the most exciting part of a medical spa business and they are developing at such a rapid pace that it is difficult to keep up! Find out more about the top medical spa treatments for your medical spa and medical aesthetic facility, and learn how to identify what treatments will work best for your patient demographic and your bottom line.
