During the swim you traverse the river Mosel between Luxembourg and Germany and while riding the bike you cross between Luxembourg and France. IRONMAN in the land of steel!This is the first time that the Grand Duchy has the honor of hosting this year‘s many sports and elite athletes during the Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg, one of the biggest international triathlons.

The bike course will leave the Grand Duchy and reenter it in Schengen not noticing that a border has been crossed.

The Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg team is proud to have the luxemburgish pro athlete Dirk Bockel starting in Luxemburg. Feel original IRONMAN atmosphere!On September 7th, the day before the start of the Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg race will be gi-ven, you will have the opportunity to prove your sporting ambitions in an Aquathlon. Everything you need is a bathing suit (“rubber wings” are permit-ted if required) and running shoes.

The swim will take place in the outdoor pool in Remich. The finish line will be the same as the IRONMAN-Stars from all over the world will pass the next day.

Take part and become an IRONKID!The entry fee is 10 € per child.Under the slogan: „Children for Children“ all pro-ceeds from the entry fee revenue will be donated for charitable purposes.

SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde is a Luxembourg association, which belongs to the worldwide fe-deration SOS Children‘s Villages International. The non-denominational and non-governmental orga-nisation helps orphans, abandoned and destitute children in 133 countries.Through its 545 SOS Children‘s Villages, 402 SOS Youth Facilities, 624 SOS Social, 74 SOS Medical Centres, 182 SOS Schools, 222 SOS Kindergartens, 54 SOS Vocational Training Centres and 16 emer-gency programs, the organisation helps more than one million children, youth and adults.In Ethiopia, one of the poorest countries of Africa, SOS is present since 1974. Poverty is made worse by natural disasters (like the drought in the horn of Arica in 2011), strife and a precarious health situation.

The Luxembourgish association finances the Fami-ly Strengthening Program of Gode since 2008. In 2012, more than 600 children and 140 youth and adults were supported by the program. The various measures allow families to obtain autonomy on a long term in order not to abandon their children. Convincing the parents to send their children to school is part of the awareness raising task of the program team as education is one of the fundamental rights which are often neglected, especially when it comes to girls. SOS takes over school fees and school material and in children clubs elder children learn how to deal with homework in order to get better results at school.

SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde est une association luxembourgeoise. A travers différentes me-sures, ce programme permet aux tuteurs d’acquérir une autonomie sur le long terme et de pouvoir ainsi continuer à élever seuls leurs enfants.Convaincre les parents à envoyer leurs enfants à l’école fait partie de la mission de sensibilisation de SOS, l’éducation étant un des droits fondamentaux souvent négligé, surtout pour les filles. SOS prend en charge les frais de scolarité, le matériel scolaire et, dans les clubs d’enfants, les aînés aident les pe-tits à faire leurs devoirs.

the swim course is very exciting. the first part of the course is along the riverside, where no stream has to be expected. Second part is downstream throught the middle of the mosel. after the second turn you will swim along the riverside again towards the swim out. all in all you have to expect a really fast swim. Spectators are able to follow the athletes along the whole swim course. the course is for athletes as well as for the public promising and unique.

le parcours de natation est très excitant. la pre-mière partie du parcours est le long du bord de la rivière, où aucun courant ne doit être attendu. deuxième partie est en aval et passe par le milieu de la moselle. au retour, de nouveau, vous nagerez le long du bord de la rivière vers le swim out. dans l‘ensemble, il faut s‘attendre une course très rapi-de. les spectateurs sont en mesure de suivre les athlètes sur tout le parcours. le parcours est pour les athlètes ainsi que pour le public prometteur et unique.

the first kilometers along the riverside are flat and help you find your cadence. after km 36 starts the first climb and the course gets hilly for the next 40 km. even if there aren‘t that many climbingmeters the course can be very challenging on a windy day. the last kilo-meters are flat again. enjoy the countryside and don‘t forget to have fun.

les premiers kilomètres le long de la moselle sont parfaits pour se mettre dans le rythme. après km 36 commence la première montée et le parcours devient valloné. Sur certains faux plats le vent peut rendre le parcours très exigent. les 15 derniers ki-lomètres qui passent par Schen-gen sont de nouveau tout plat. Profitez du paysage et n‘oubliez pas de vous amuser.

Bike, helmet, chip and race-num-bers, red bag, blue bag and go! to have a good start in the race don’t come to late and don’t for-get anything. my advice: after the check-in, relax along the riversi-de of the moselle, enjoy the good athmosphere and look forward to a beautiful race.

vélo, casque, chip et dossards, sac rouge, sac bleu et c’est parti ! Pour avoir un bon départ dans la course il ne faut surtout pas ve-nir trop tard et ne rien oublier. mon conseil : après le check-in, se détendre le long de la mosel-le, savourer la bonne ambiance et se réjouir à l’avance d’une course merveilleuse.

in beijing in 2008, when I was leading the race for such a long time and then still finish pretty acceptably. Of course in long-distance I had way bigger results; several podiums and wins at IRONMAN competitions and my latest victory over the IRONMAN distance in July with a time of 7:52:01, which is an other national record and a personal best. You know it is the 5th best time ever achieved over the IRONMAN distance. So it puts me on a really great spot in terms of reputations and sponsorship and in terms of potential candidates to win Kona. Those are the special moments in my life of course let’s not forget the medals that I won at European Championships and World Championships. It has been a long career; I am in my 25th season now, starting in 1989 and then built up through the ranks of junior up to the Pro field. It has been quite a journey and gave me a lot of confidence. I had a great opportunity seeing the world, meeting great people and also built my own brand globally.

How do you prepare yourself for the Ergo IRONMAN

70.3 Luxembourg?

DIRK bOCKEL: The preparation for the race is not too specific because it is going to be in the build-up for hawaii, but also I can prepare it very well on the course several times. Everything is very familiar; I know the conditions and the climate in Luxemburg pretty well. So it gives me also the home advantage with an amazing crowd of spectators and having Ergo as a main sponsor is also very interesting. I am honored to be one of the top favorites for that race so let’s hope it all turns out great and I am looking forward to seeing everyone out there.

IRONMAN 70.3 in Luxemburg, is it something special

for you?

DIRK bOCKEL: Yeah absolutely it means something very special to me that we have one of the bigger races now also in Luxemburg. It is a very good idea to combine the 3 countries. It is very optimal for me since I am living very close to the venue. I am very excited that we have a platform for the triathlon in our small country but the race gives us all a great opportunity to reach a broad market.

What are your expectations?

DIRK bOCKEL: My expectations for the race are pretty high. I mean it is important for me coming from Luxemburg, racing in Luxemburg that I will treat this race very serious. From now on I am preparing for hawaii so this is a perfect race in the build up to have a check where I am but I will also be in a really good shape by the time of September. So I think I will be at the top of my game and definitely hoping for a great podium or if possible even a victory.

What do you associate with IRONMAN?

DIRK bOCKEL: To this race I associate a lot of good memories, building my career in Luxemburg. having lots of success regionally first before I had great success internationally. IRONMAN holds the biggest race in hawaii. The IRONMAN 70.3 is basically a partial goal on the way to the big goal in hawaii and therefore I think I should be in good shape and I can use this race as perfect preparation for the big dance in hawaii.

What were your most important successes and moments?

DIRK bOCKEL: The most important success and moments in my career were the Olympic Games

DIRK bOCKEL: Oui absolument, cela signifie quelque chose de très spécial pour moi. Maintenant nous avons une des plus grandes courses aussi au Luxembourg. C‘est une très bonne idée de combiner les 3 pays. Il est très optimal pour moi car je vis très proche du site de l’événement. Je suis très excité que nous avons une plate-forme pour le triathlon dans notre petit pays, mais la course nous donne aussi une excellente occasion d‘atteindre un marché plus large.

Quelles sont tes attentes?

DIRK bOCKEL: Mes attentes pour la course sont assez élevées. Il est très important pour moi venant de Luxembourg, que je vais traiter cette course très sérieusement. A partir de maintenant je me prépare pour hawaii, c‘est donc une course parfaite dans la préparation d‘avoir un contrôle de ma forme actuelle, detoutefaçonjeseraidansunetrèsbonneformeaumoment de septembre. Donc, je pense que je vais être au top de mon jeu et certainement l‘espoir d‘un podium ou, si possible, même une victoire.

Qu‘est-ce que tu associes avec IRONMAN?

DIRK bOCKEL: Avec cette course, j‘associe beaucoup de bons souvenirs, le développement de ma carrière au Luxembourg. Ayant beaucoup de succès dans la région au début avant que j‘ai eu des grands succès internationaux. IRONMAN détient la plus grande course à hawaii. L‘IRONMAN 70.3 est essentiellement un objectif partiel sur le chemin vers le grand but à hawaii et donc je pense que je devrais être en bonne forme et je peux utiliser cette course comme une préparation idéale pour la grande danse à hawaii.

Quels ont été tes succès et moments les plus

importants?

DIRK bOCKEL: Les succès et moments les plus importants de ma carrière ont été les Jeux Olympiques de Pékin en 2008, quand je menais la course pour une si longue période et finissait avec une place acceptable. bien sûr, en longue distance j‘avais des plus grands résultats, plusieurs podiums et victoires lors des compétitions IRONMAN et ma dernière victoire sur la distance IRONMAN en juillet avec un temps de 7:52:01, ce qui est un autre record national et ma meilleure performance personnelle. C’est le 5e meilleur temps jamais réalisé sur la distance IRONMAN. Donc, il me met sur une très belle place en termes de réputation, de sponsoring et en termes de candidats potentiels pour gagner Kona. Ce sont les moments spéciaux dans ma vie, bien sûr n‘oublions pas les médailles que j‘ai gagnées aux Championnats d‘Europe et Championnats du Monde. C’est déjà une longue carrière, je suis dans ma 25e saison maintenant, commençanten1989,puisconstruitàtravers lesrangs des juniors jusqu‘à la carrière professionnelle. C’était un beau voyage et il m‘a donné beaucoup de confiance. J‘ai eu une excellente occasion de voir le monde, rencontrer des gens formidables et aussi de construire ma propre marque au niveau mondial.

Comment tu te prépares pour le Ergo IRONMAN 70.3

Luxembourg?

DIRK bOCKEL: La préparation pour la course n’est pas trop spécifique, car je suis dans la préparation pour hawaii, mais aussi je peux la préparer très bien sur le parcours plusieurs fois. Tout est très bien, je connais les conditions et le climat au Luxembourg assez bien. Donc, il me donne aussi l‘avantage local avec une foule incroyable de spectateurs et ayant Ergo en tant que sponsor principal est également très intéressant. Je suis honoré d‘être l‘un des grands favoris pour cette course, espérons que tout se déroule bien et je me réjouis de voir tout le monde à Remich.

We believe that organizing a 70.3 Ironman in Luxembourg is a great idea in terms of in-ternational sport‘s event as well as to promo-te Luxembourg as a tourist destination.

We have been volunteering for Ironman in Kona (Big Island of Hawaii) for the last few years in regist-ration and transition and we not only appreciate the great location, but also the international atmosphere and the possibility to meet and to make friends from all around the world.

The positive vibe, coming to meet international world class athletes as well as ordinary people like you and me, to be able to contribute to an event, knowing that such events could never happen without volunteers, are all part of the stunning and striking experience of the Ironman.

We have no doubt that organizing such an event in Lu-xembourg would be the experience of 2013 and hopefully each of the volunteers and athletes would have excellent memorable days before, during and after the event.

The Iron-man 70.3 will be held this year for the first time in Luxembourg and this is very exciting for me. Since I had already

been volunteering during the JPEE, I know that it can be very interesting. To meet new people and to know that one can help. As I‘ll be happy to help other people, I have registered as a volunteer.

Mainly I am interested in „Team Media“ and „Fi-nishline - Tshirts/medals area“ in order to gather a little experience from a new area.

From the event, I expect that I can learn to be more open to other people. I expect a great at-mosphere and good relations among volunteers.

The Ironman 70.3 is a new experience for me after the JPEE and I hope for a great success.

L‘Ironman 70.3 aura lieu cette année pour la première fois au Luxembourg et c‘est très exci-tant pour moi. Comme j‘avais déjà fait du béné-volat au cours des JPEE, je sais que cela peut être très intéressant. Pour rencontrer de nouvelles personnes et de savoir que l‘on peut aider. Com-me je serai heureux d‘aider autres personnes, je me suis inscrit en tant que bénévole.

Principalement, je suis intéressé par „Team Me-dia“ et „Finishline - Tshirts/medals area“ afin de recueillir un peu d‘expérience d‘une nouvelle zone.

How did you get started with

Ironman?

CLAUDE SChEUER: 10 months ago I would not have thought to start in Remich. When it became public that the race starts in Remich, I decided that this will be the goal for 2013 and I bought a swimsuit.I gained my experience in endurance sports through running and I already had a basic endurance. I bought a bike 2 years ago, so there were no excuses.

CLAUDE SChEUER: Since I live in Remich, it‘s really something special. Not just because of friends and family, who will be cheering along the courses but also because of the atmosphere that prevails in a „home game“.

What are your expectations?

CLAUDE SChEUER: At the first IM 70.3 you should not set a finish time. Enjoy the race, make sure you pass all 3 disciplines well and then the finish does not matter.

CLAUDE SChEUER: Il y a 10 mois, je n‘aurais pas pensé à aller au départ. Quand j’ai appris que la course commence à Remich, j’ai décidé que ce sera la cible de 2013 et j‘ai acheté un maillot de bain. J’ai reçu mes expériences dans lessports d‘endurance par la course à pied et une endurance de base était déjà présente. Le vélo, je me suis acheté il y a 2 ans, donc rien ne s‘opposait à l’inscription.

CLAUDE SChEUER: Le fait que je vis à Remich, l’Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg est vraiment quelque chose de spécial pour moi. Non seulement parce que des amis et la famille seront le long de la route, mais aussi en raison de l‘atmosphère qui règne dans un «match à domicile».

CLAUDE SChEUER: Lors du premier IRONMAN 70.3 on ne faut pas se poser un temps précis. Profitez de la course, passer les différentes disciplines le mieux que possible et puis le temps d’arrivé à la fin n‘a pas d‘importance. Je souhaite à chaque participant de ma communauté un accueil chaleureux et espère que chaque visiteur, les spectateurs et les athlètes apprécieront leur séjour. bonne chance à tous et que les

objectifs personnels sont atteints.

CLAUDE SChEUER: Entraînement, entraînement et encore une fois entraînement.D‘abord amusement, il faut avoir l‘ambition et avoir toujours un objectif en tête! Course à pied, vélo et la natation, je m‘entraîne principalement sur les routes de l’Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg. Un plan d’entraînement m’a été formé que j‘essaie de mettre en œuvre, même si ceci n‘est pas toujours facile. Ici, je peux compter sur le soutien de ma famille, amis et collègues de travail. D‘autant plus que l‘un de mes collègues est également au départ, ce qui m‘a motivé davantage.

A mega-event such as the Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg is always related to enormous amounts of waste. In order to minimize the strain on the ecosystem the Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxem-bourg Team decided to go green and elaborated two sustainable concepts.

RACE:littering zones: In these zones athletes are allowed to drop their waste during the competition. This concept facilitates the work for the cleaning crew and avoids that waste is spread all over the courses.

SPECTATORS/EVENT AREA:Reusable Cups: A survey during the UEFA European Football Championship 2008 showed that even the best disposable cup system leads to a twice as high environmental pollution than the worst reusable cup system. A reusable cup system is certainly the environmentally best. Therefore the Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg Team ordered 20.000 reusable cups. A 2 euros deposit system creates an incentive to return the cups, which helps to substantially ease the littering problem.

Un méga-événement tel que l‘Ergo IRON-MAN 70.3 Luxembourg est toujours rattaché à d‘énormes quantités de déchets. Pour minimi-ser la charge sur l‘écosystème l’équipe de l‘Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg a décidé d‘aller vert et a élaboré deux concepts durables.

COURSE:littering zones: Dans ces zones on permet aux athlètes de laisser tomber leurs déchets pendant la compétition. Ce concept facilite le travail pour l‘équipage de nettoyage et évite que les déchets soient étendus le long de la course.

SPECTATEURS/SITE DE L’EVENEMENT :reusable cups: Une enquête pendant l’UEFA Championnat d’Europe de Football 2008 a montré que même le meilleur système de gobelets jetables mène à une deux fois plus haute pollution de l‘environnement que le pire système de gobelets réutilisables. Un système de gobelets réutilisables est certainement environnementalement le mieux. Donc l‘équipe de l’Ergo IRONMAN 70.3 Luxembourg a ordonné 20.000 tasses réutilisables. We are happy to host the Luxemburgish Long Distance Championship in Remich. We have over 160 Luxemburgish Athletes registered, which is the largest Luxemburgish starting field in an IRONMAN race.

In the women’s race we will have a very interesting race. The 3 top Athletes Sandra Huberty, Annette Jaffke and youngster Sophie Margue will all absolve their first long distance triathlon.

In the men’s race, Dirk Bockel seems out of reach as the only professional, but the incumbent champion Steve Moog and Olivier Godart, who showed great performances in the United Arab Emirates, will try to challenge Dirk. Tim Karius and Dany Papi are also contenders for the podium.

Nous sommes heureux d‘accueillir le championnat luxembourgeois de longue distance à Remich. Nous avons plus de 160 athlètes luxembourgeois inscrits, ce qui est le plus grand champ de départ luxembourgeois dans une course IRONMAN.

Dans la course des dames, nous aurons une course très intéressante. Les 3 athlètes de premier ordre Sandra Huberty, Annette Jaffke et le jeune Sophie Margue vont toutes passer leur premier triathlon longue distance.

Dans la course des hommes, Dirk Bockel semble hors de portée comme le seul athlète professionnel, mais le champion sortant Steve Moog et Olivier Godart, qui ont montré de grandes performances aux Émirats Arabes Unis, vont tenter de contester Dirk. Tim Karius et Dany Papi sont également en lice pour le podium
