Iron Pen was born to a pair of earth ponies (Violet Stone, and Sand Step) who were low-class manufacture workers in a steel mill on the edge of Tall Tale. He had 2 siblings, and another pair by his father's second wife. He had begun working in the same mill as his parents for a year before a great fire overtook the manufactory nearly killing him, his parents, and the other workers. During the fire a Grey veiled mare appeared before him and spoke to him. She called herself the Cludach Mare and spoke about how he could order the world and turn it away from it's current path. Consumed with the concept he agreed and the mare led him out of the fire before the collapse of the mill.

He left home that day and moved off to find out how to best spread the understanding of the Cludach Mare. He used his fund to obtain vestments designed after her form, and to get a cuff to represent her. Soon he began to receive revelations from the Mare and wrote them down, creating the doctrines of the faith. Mutual control for the betterment of the world was the way and it could not be denied.

His first conflict broke out over a young dragon that had begun to bother a town. He chose the side of the dragon sheltering it from the villagers and slowly began to retreat from the village when he realized that their disorder was to much for his current ability to convert. He now comes to a new town with his ward, a smaller one with a more blank slate.
