USAID - Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) Baluchistan

PRP – Balochistan: 161 Monthly TIG Meetings were conducted during the month of October, 2019. 110 School support visits were conducted by SSAs and similarly, 110 School support visits were conducted by Mentors. Other activities: A 3-days workshop was held to finalize the test item bank at PRP office Quetta. A total of 7 individuals attended the workshop. Test item Bank for Grade-1 &2 was reviewed and finalized in the workshop. Furthermore, a Tablet Distribution

Ceremony was held where Android tablets were handed over to all 06 proposed students of Sardar Bahdur khan Women University, Quetta through merit-based selection criteria in the presence of Dean and other faculty members of Education Department on 22nd of October, 2019. The TC also held a meeting with Deputy Focal Person PPIU regarding implementation of reading policies notified by the Department of Education, Government of Balochistan.

PRP – Newly Merged Tribal Districts: During the month of October, a one day was conducted on “Orientation Workshop for Directorate and Field staff of NMD’s.” 26 men and 03 women staff participated in the workshop. A two days orientation workshop was also held for newly appointed staff. The CEO- IRM, Project Director and Advisor Program Coordination visited Regional Office Peshawar, held a meeting with the project staff on “implementation of Alternate Strategy” and assured

IRM’s full support in achieving targets timely. To finalize this Alternate Strategy implementation plan, a consultation meeting took place at IRC-PRP office Islamabad, attended by the Project Director, Advisor Coordination & Regional Team and a detailed implementation plan was finalized. Furthermore, IRM-PRP NMD’s Team attended “USAID Project Close out requirement” in IRC-PRP office, Islamabad.

Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support Project (SUCCESS):

IRM is implementing the three-year EU/NRSP funded SUCCESS project in four Districts of Sindh (Matiari, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Sujawal. During the month of October, 18 Participants Graduated in Adaa work, 18 in Baby Garments, 158 in

Dress Designing (Advance), 17 in Baby Dress Designing, 16 in Computer Skill Training, 35 in Tailoring & Dress Making, 16 Machine Embroidery (Advance), and 64 in Hand Embroidery (Advance).

‘Strengthening Civil Society Organizations’ Project: IRM in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute (Civic Initiative) is currently implementing a one year ‘Strengthening Civil Society Organizations Project’ funded by the U.S. State Department. The project aims to improve the organizational capacity of Pakistani Civil Society Organizations/NGO’s while, at the same time improving ties between Pakistan and the United States through programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation. Last

month, 26 participants were trained on “Resource Mobilization” in a two-day training. The training was held on October 23-24, 2019. Similarly, 21 participants were trained in one day workshop on “Program Development” on October 25, 2019. Documentation (Registration Forms, Participants Feedback Forms, Training Schedule, Handouts, Photographs) of both the events were shared with UMass Team.

IRM Annual Technical Inspection 2019: IRM’s Annual Technical Inspection (ATI) is a widespread inspection of all IRM regional including project field units for improving the systems, procedures as well as the performance and quality in operations related to human resources, administrative assets and capital, financial resources, and monitoring and evaluation of organizational programmes/projects. The inspection aims to restore and regulate internal systems by highlighting good practices as well as the areas that

require improvement. The first scheduled ATI visit this year to IRM VTEC Rawalpindi was conducted in September 2019. The team conducting the inspection comprised of the IRM managerial staff from the Human Resource (HR), Finance & Accounts (F&A), Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and Administration (Admin & IT) sections. Visits to IRM South Punjab and /Sindh offices are planned for the upcoming months.

Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP): The Government of Punjab, with financial assistance of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), launched Phase II of the project for three years till March 31, 2021 titled South Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP) in districts Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and DG Khan in South Punjab. SPPAP

is designed to assist the Government to achieve its objectives of economic growth and poverty alleviation. The overall goal of the project is to reduce rural poverty in Southern Punjab. Last month, 317 participants graduated under the VTO component and 225 participants graduated under the ETO component.

Accelerated Action Plan project with SAWFCO in Sindh: IRM is implementing a two-year joint venture AAP project (Livestock Component) with lead partner SAFWCO in 24 districts of Sindh province. The project is aimed at building the capacity of communities for livestock management and human nutrition, which will contribute to the reduction of malnutrition and stunting rates among children under 5 years. Under this project, IRM leading the technical part of the project, designed and developed the Training manual

(in English and Sindhi) and conducted ToT for 26 field-based Livestock Trainers and 13 Nutrition Facilitators. The manual development and the ToT were led by key Experts and the trainers. Along with Training and Awareness Kits, these field based trainers and facilitators will target 132,830 HH for nutrition and livestock management awareness in 13 districts in year one and 11 districts in year two.
