USAID - Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) Baluchistan
149 Monthly TIG Meetings were conducted during the month of August 2019. 245 School support visits were conducted by SSAs while 240 School support visits were conducted by Mentors. Other activities: Under component 2, the BEAC staff was trained on developed test item Tool for further administration at school level. Consequently, the BAEC team then administered the tool of piloting Test Item Bank in 9 schools with a total of 360 students.
Furthermore, meetings were held with Chief Consultant, Balochistan Education Sector Plan (BESP) regarding inclusion of reading in the proposed BESP and with Additional Secretary Secondary Education and Deputy Focal Person PPIU to finalize the agenda of upcoming 3-days test item bank piloting. IRM-PRP Balochistan Team also participated in five meetings of thematic groups at PPIU for the development of BESP 2019-23.
Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP):
The Government of Punjab, with financial assistance of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), launched Phase II of the project for three years till March 31, 2021 titled South Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP) in districts Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and DG Khan in South Punjab. SPPAP is designed to assist the
Government to achieve its objectives of economic growth and poverty alleviation. The overall goal of the project is to reduce rural poverty in Southern Punjab. Last month, 765 participants have graduated under the VTO component in seven different trades and 153 participants graduated in three different trades under ETO component.
‘Strengthening Civil Society Organizations’ Project: IRM in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute (Civic Initiative) is currently implementing a one year ‘Strengthening Civil Society Organizations Project’ funded by the U.S. State Department. The project aims to improve the organizational capacity of Pakistani Civil Society Organizations/NGO’s while, at the same time improving ties between Pakistan and the United States through programming that highlights shared
values and promotes bilateral cooperation. Last month, 22 participants were trained in the two-day workshop on “Project Cycle Management” (August 01-02, 2019). Furthermore, a debriefing session was held at the U.S. Embassy for the participants who visited the one-month U.S. training institute at UMass Amherst. Training documents related to the project cycle management training were shared with the UMass team as well.
Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support Project (SUCCESS): IRM is implementing the three-year EU/NRSP funded SUCCESS project in four Districts of Sindh (Matiari, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Sujawal.) During the month of August, 141 participants Graduated in Applique work (Advance), 64 in Adda Work (Advance), 11 in Motorcycle
Repairing, 193 in Dress Designing (Advance), 47 Baby Dress Designing, 5 in Gents Tailoring, 28 in Hand Embroidery (Advance), 15 Home Based Livestock Farming, 17 Motorcycle Mechanic & 15 in Professional Car Driving.
Accelerated Action Plan project with SAWFCO in Sindh:
IRM is the implementing partner of SAFWCO for the capacity building component of the Government of Sindh funded ‘Accelerated Action Plan for Reduction of Stunting and Malnutrition’ project in Sindh. The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to contribute to the reduction of the stunting rate among children
under 5 years of age by targeting the most affected districts in the Province of Sindh. With the project activities initiating last month, 25 participants graduated in ‘ToT of SAFWCO staff’’ training, while 13 participants were trained under the ‘ToT of community awareness facilitators’ training.
BRACE - BRSP Vocational Training project: IRM is implementing the vocational skills component for youth of Balochistan under the BRSP (through EU
and PPAF) funded project. A total of 153 participants have graduated in ten different trades.
IRM Social Initiative - Tree Plantation Drive:
This August, under Plant for Pakistan Campaign, the IRM Team planted 100 trees in the cities of
Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi for Clean & Green Pakistan to combat climate change and pollution.
