Virtue of the Week This week our virtue theme is being AUTHENTIC– The strength to be always true and real. AUTHENTICITY is neces-sary for everything in life. We need to be “real” for ourselves, our classmates, our teammates, our family. If not, we will nev-er win when it counts; trying to be something that we aren’t and never will be. PRAYER Thank you, Lord, for this day, this opportunity, this time to-gether. Strengthen us today to be AUTHENTIC! Help us not to cave to peer pressure doing and being what we aren’t but in-stead follow Your example of AUTHENTICITY. We love You and want to be like You, AUTHENTIC in every way.

5th graders are once again participating in the Kidknits service project this year. This program gives students the opportunity to experience the art of loom knitting while learning about extreme poverty throughout the world. The hand spun yarn purchased for knitting the hats helps families in Rwanda and Chile earn a living wage. Students are pictured with Kristin Zitka the “Mother of Kidknits”. www.kidknits.org

“Meet the Teachers and Staff of St. Patrick’s School” is limited time article that will be featured in the Irish Messenger. The 6th grade ELA class interviewed all the teachers and staff and wrote interesting pieces about each one. Two members of the St. Patrick faculty and/or staff will be featured each week. Please take the time to get to know the wonderful people who work with our children each and every day and love doing so.

Meet Miss Anita Keck By Caleb Greene - 6th grade Welcome to Miss Keck’s classroom. She is the Pre-K 3 teacher at St. Patrick's School. She also teaches art to K-4 students and RtI to K-2 students. Miss Keck has taught for 27 years. Before St. Pat’s she taught at St. Bernard’s School in Peoria and at the Children's Center of Tazewell County in Creve Coeur. She started teaching at St. Pat’s in 2004. She has taught 3rd grade, 2nd grade, PreK-8th grade religion, preschool, and art. For grade school she went to St Bernard’s and attended the Academy of Our Lady, now Notre Dame High School. Then she graduated from ICC and then Bradley University.

Miss Keck says, “The reason I became a teacher was because of a great third grade teacher I had who inspired me.” She would never want to

change jobs, as she loves teaching. The biggest change she’s noticed in education is that younger kids are expected to learn more now than ever before, and Miss Keck says that St. Pat’s preschool program is a great way to do that. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing the kids’ excitement for learning. In her free time she likes to read, paint, draw, and watch TV.

Meet Mrs. Tammy Aurit By Grace Aeschliman - 6th grade student

Welcome to Mrs. Aurit’s fourth grade classroom. This is her first year teaching at St. Pats. The fourth graders love her!

She attended three different colleges: NIU, Kaplan University, and WGU. After college, Mrs. Aurit taught at Germantown Hills for 3 years, Marquette Academy for 3 years, and Marseille Elementary.

Mrs. Aurit loves teaching 4th grade. Her favorite subjects are ELA, math, and science. Mrs. Aurit says, “I wanted to become a teacher in fourth grade when my aunt and my teacher SR. Catherine helped me catch up in school and learn my math facts.” She loves teaching at St. Pats because she can talk about God’s love in every subject. She says her favorite part of teaching is when she sees that “a-ha” moment. She wishes she had more time because there is never enough time in a day to get done what she thinks she should.

Mrs. Aurit hangs out with her family in her free time and loves to run. She has four daughters and a son. She also has two grandsons that she adores. Mrs. Aurit’s favorite places to visit are beautiful beaches where she spends time thinking about every “a-ha” moment she s seen in her classroom.

Thank you note to St. Patrick School and CCD students

Dear Students,

On behalf of all the people we meet when we go out on home visits, thank you very much for your donations of paper products and personal care items. Thanks also to the students who came and help count the 219 items you so generously donated!

Our St. Vincent DePaul Society is a lay ministry of volunteers. We help people with their bills, and bring boxes of food and personal care items. They are surprised and very appreciative. We could not give this extra help without your donations!

God bless you all for practicing the bible teaches us: “Whatever you do for the least of my people, that you do unto Me”

Christmas Baskets 2019 One-Day Only!!!!!! ****In Peoria****

St. Patrick’s School has once again been given an opportunity to assist others in this season of sharing. Lindy’s Downtown Market has graciously asked St. Patricks’ to gather volunteers to help make, fill, and wrap food baskets for the needy on Sunday, December 15th. Over the past 16 years, St. Patrick School and Parish have helped fill over 80,000 food baskets through this project!

This year the project will be held in Peoria at the Midwest Food Bank. These boxes of food help feed needy families during the holiday season. Midwest Food Bank is generously allowing us to use their facility for free. We need at least 85 people to accomplish this task. Students can also volunteer to help, but only 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Our plans are for all volunteers to meet at school at 8:15 AM on Sunday morning. You will be transported to work at Midwest Food Bank. We hope to begin at 9:00 AM. We will offer school buses to go to the site. You can drive and meet us there if you wish. We hope to be able to complete the work in about 4 hours. Please fill out the form below and return to the school ASAP. Thank you.
