1. Poem: IF YOU FORGET ME (PABLO NERUDA)

I want you to know 5one thing. 2

You know how this is: 5if I look 5

at the crystal moon, at the red branch 8of the slow autumn at my window, 7

if I touch 3near the fire 3

the impalpable ash 5or the wrinkled body of the log, 9everything carries me to you, 8as if everything that exists, 8

aromas, light, metals, 5were little boats 3

that sail 2toward those isles of yours that wait for me. 9

Well, now, 2if little by little you stop loving me 9

I shall stop loving you little by little. 9

If suddenly 2you forget me 3

do not look for me, 5for I shall already have forgotten you. 8

If you think it long and mad, 7the wind of banners 5

that passes through my life, 5and you decide 4

to leave me at the shore 6of the heart where I have roots, 7

remember 3that on that day, 4

at that hour, 3I shall lift my arms 5

and my roots will set off 6to seek another land. 6

But 1if each day, 3each hour, 2

you feel that you are destined for me 10with implacable sweetness, 6

if each day a flower 6climbs up to your lips to seek me, 8

ah my love, ah my own, 6in me all that fire is repeated, 7

in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten, 10my love feeds on your love, beloved, 9

and as long as you live it will be in your arms 12without leaving mine. 5

1.1 Biography of Pablo Neruda The author of the poem is Pablo Neruda. He was born in Chile in 1904, and he died

in 1973.He participated in politics and he was one of the best poets in the XX century. He

won the nobel prize in the 1971. 1.2 Description of the poem

The narrator is a boy and he’s talking to his lover. The speaker refersto himself in the first person. An irregular poem. Without rhyme, and it hasn’t the same number of syllables in all verses.

In the second stanza the boy is talking about the girl. He says that when he looks at the moon he remembers the girl because for him she is like a moon, because she is the light of his life. And a broken branch looks like the girl because she is fragile, and he has to protect her. And if he touches the ash near the fire, or a trunk it reminds him the girl’s body. The trunk, the fire and the ash are a metaphor. It means the girl’s life. The trunk reminds a young girl, the fire when she is an adult and a moment full of love and passion. And the ash when she is older .

The third stanza and in the fourth stanza says that if she forgets him day by day he will forget her too. He will know when she forgets him. Because he can feel it, and so he could forget her inthat precise moment.

In the fifth stanza there are metaphors. Here he is saying that his lover thinks that he has a lot of girlfriends. The author expresses it with metaphors because he refers to a

boy with a lot of girlfriends with a long and mad wind who passes throught his life.In this verses: “and you decide to leave me at the shore of the heart where I have

roots, remember that on that day, at that hour, I shall lift my arms and my roots will set off to seek another land”. He says that if she decides to leave him alone even if he is in love with her, he will go to look for to other women.

In the last stanza he says: “if each day a flower climbs up to your lips to seek me”. This is a metaphor because, for me, this flower means the wish to kiss him, and this wish was born like a flower, this wish blooms suddenly and she feels that she has to do it. And the boy is so happy, he feels that this is forever, he will not forget her, and she returns to look like a fire, hot.

2. SONG: SWEET CHILD O' MINE (GUNS 'N' ROSES) She's got a smile that it seems to me

Reminds me of childhood memoriesWhere everything

Was as fresh as the bright blue skyNow and then when I see her face

She takes me away to that special placeAnd if I stared too long

I'd probably break down and cry

Sweet child o' mineSweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skiesAs if they thought of rain

I hate to look into those eyesAnd see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds meof a warm safe place

Where as a child I'd hideAnd pray for the thunder

And the rainTo quietly pass me by

Sweet child o' mineSweet love of mine

Where do we goWhere do we go now

Where do we goSweet child o' mine
