Regulations
BBFC The British Board of Film Classification is an independent, non-
governmental body which has classified cinema films since its setting up in 1912 and videos/ DVDs since the Video Recordings Act was passed in 1984.
As a highly expert and experienced regulator, our mission is to:
• Protect the public - especially children, from content which might harm them.
• Empower the public- specifically parents, to make informed viewing choices.
• Recognise and respect adult freedom of choice within the law.
• Respond to/reflect changing social attitudes towards media content through proactive public consultation and research.
• Provide a cost-effective, efficient classification service within our statutory remit.
• Work in partnership with the industry to develop innovative service models to provide content advice which support emerging media delivery systems.
• Provide an effective service to enforcement agencies.
Regulations We need to have confidentiality. Madz when we met in
Leicester felt comfortable enough to show us pictures her before and after her anorexia/bulimia-- however we have not got a copy or will be sharing this because she abides by B-eats rules and her pictures are not our property.
We will also blur out faces for people who do not want to be included throughout the vox pops, or imagery in interviews. This will also be the case with names/subtitles if names are not wanted they will not be included.
We have chosen to make our certificate a PG, as our documentary content will not be explicit or contain extended vocabulary and violence will not be involved. The documentary is to advertise the impact of anorexia on a mass market channel and to run at any hour of the day therefore we will not over emphasis on any of the older age ratings.
