Students,

We’ve had a fantastic two years. We did science experiments, STEM projects, started businesses, did a hip hop dance, and many more things. I will miss you all very much and love you a lot. Keep working hard in class, stay in school, be happy, and make me proud. I expect to see your names in the newspaper one day! If you ever need my help, contact me and I will help you if I can :)

Engineering

Kiran Bhaiya came to our class in January and we made houses using

biscuits and cream. It was really hard but lots of fun too. Kiran Bhaiya

tried making the houses as well. Everyone loved the activity.

Fashion Show

For Republic Day, we did a tribal fashion show. We dressed up as different tribes peoples from

across India. I liked the activity because it stopped our class from seeing India’s tribes people as

being dirty and bad to a people who should be respected. And yes we made all the costumes

ourselves.

Angami Tribe.

Siddi Tribe.

Jarawa Tribe.

Mizo Tribe.

Khonds Tribe. Group photo!

Value Activities

Our class learned many values this year so that everyone would grow into good

human beings. The values included respect, integrity, compassion, being

considerate, and teamwork. All of the activities below are about teamwork

however as those are only the photos I have of value activities.

The students had to hold their hands

together and keep a balloon in the air

without letting go of their hands.

Students trying to keep their

balloons in the air. Students chasing after their balloon.

The students were given circles made of

string. Their goal was for all of them to

get into the circle. Riyan’s group trying to get into

the circle.

Jabir’s group standing in

their circle.

Students had to hold their hands together and pass a circular piece of rope

over their bodies without letting go of their hands.

Business

We learned business for one month in November. At the end of the business class, our class was told to make

their own businesses. Many of them sold pencils and rubbers to the other students at our school. One of the

things I said was that a good business not only makes money but helps the poor too. It was amazing to see each

business in our class give money to the poor outside.

Musrifsa and her friends making a plan for their business.

Adnan selling items to students at lunch time. This group made over 350 rupees on their first business day!

A business group advertising their business to the 2nd std class. Rushan and Jabir making a spreadsheet.

Mishba making a face :)

Makers Lab

A key focus in our class was innovation. One of the ways we learned this was

through Makers Lab where we took trash and turned it into different things like

roads, houses, hats, and whatever else we could think of.

Anash and Ujefa showing off the gun they

made.

Adnan and his robot.

One of my most favorite things made

at Makers Lab: a mechanical hand.

Ujefa and Rushan typing their baskeball hoop

to a water pipe.

Jabir’s hand and Harish’s hammer.

The most creative student in my class,

Tohie, displaying his balance.

Dominos

Our class went to Dominos where we got to make pizzas (and eat them

too). Easily my most favorite trip this school year.

A Dominos worker telling the children the importance of washing

their hands before they cook pizzas.

The boys wearing their pizza making hats.

Uvesh pressing out his pizza dough into a

giant circle.

A fully cooked pizza which the

students made. Was very tasty!

them.

S.T.E.M.

We did many Science (S), Technology (T), Engineering (E), and Math (M) in class this year. The

activities were not just fun but useful too as most of the students in our class want to become

engineers, doctors, and scientists.

Took three studens to Purvee Didi’s

school where they helped me perform

two experiments for her school.

A girl displaying a water pump

I made. You put it in a cup of

water and spin it and water

shoots out.

Jabir, Tohie, and Rushan standing with a boy

they made friends with.

This is a computer science activity, where the group of students

had to move Jabir around the board using computer code.

Students planting garlic plants to learn about how sunlight helps

plants grow.

Maheenor, Rushan, and Maheenor’s sister using paper to

make a paper wheel.

Hip Hop Dance

Did a hip hop dance for the Annual Day Function where our class danced to

the song Bye Bye Bye. Took over 3 weeks of hard work, after school dance

practices, and a few broken legs to do this. But it paid off as the dance turned

really well.

Students posing for a photo before dance practice. Students practicing a new dance move I taught them.

More practice. Students posing with their dance costumes.

Home Visits

Visited the homes of many of our class students over the Holi holidays. Had a

memorable time talking to the parents and seeing how my students live. I

seriously wish I had visited their homes sooner.
