Life of Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) Siddique

Hazrat Abu-Bakr(R.A) was born in Mecca in 573 A.D in a rich family in Banutaym of the Quraysh

tribe. Abu Bakr’s father’s name was Usman Abu Quhafa and his mother was Salma Bint Sakhar. He

spent his early childhood like other Arab children. He developed a particular fondness for camels. In

his early years he played with the camel calves and goats and his love for camels earned him the

nick name “Abu Bakr”.

Hazrat Abu Bakr was the first Caliph of Muslim Empire. He got the title of Siddique (a true

believing person) by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). He motivated many influential

persons to accept Islam. Abu Bakr was very strict in word and action. He took active part in every

event during the battle of Uhad, Khandak and Badr. He regulated the system of Zakat. He appointed

Zaid-Bin-Sabit for collecting the verses of Quran. He gave everything for the cause of Islam. He

was an ideal ruler. He expanded his empire outside Arabia for the first time. At the age of 63, he

died of fever and was buried beside the Prophet (S.A.W). He was one of the Ashara-ul-Mubashira

Unit II

Topic:- Seed Dispersal and Crop Production

Seed Dispersal: Scattering of seeds away from the parent plant.

Q1 Why seeds are dispersed?

Ans. In nature seeds need to be dispersed away from the parent plant so that each gets sufficient

space, nutrients and sunlight to grow.

Q2. What are the agents of dispersal?

Ans. The seeds are dispersed by the agents of nature like wind, water, animals or by suddent

explosion of the fruit.

Q3 What is crop production?

Ans. The cultivation of same kind of plants on a large scale at one place is known as crop

production.

We grow useful plants on a large scale to feed large population.

Q4 Why are natural fertilizers preferred over chemical fertilizer?

Ans. Natural fertilizers are preferred over chemical fertilizers because they improve the soil quality

and its water retaining capacity without causing any pollution.

Q5 What is organic farming?

Ans. Organic farming is the production of crops without using any chemical fertilizers and

pesticides.

Q6 What is the importance of ploughing?

Ans. The soil is to be turned before sowing. This makes soil loose so that roots of young plants can

penetrate it easily and turns top soil to bring the fertile soil up.

Q7 Describe how dispersal is done by different agents of nature giving examples of each.

Ans. Dispersal by animals: 1. By birds: Some birds eat the fruit pulp along with seeds. These seeds remain undigested and

come out intact with their dropping. So, where ever the birds go and its dropping will fall the

seeds get a chance to germinate there.

2. By hairy animals: Seeds of some grasses and wild plants have spines or hooks on them.

When animals with hairy bodies pass through them the seeds get stuck to their bodies and are

carried away e.g, seeds of grass, goose grass and tiger nail dispersal in the way.

3. By human beings: We too eat fruits like mangoes, jamuns and cherries and through away

their seeds.

Monkey also helps in dispersal in similar way.

Dispersal by explosion of fruits:

Some fruits explode on drying scattering their seeds away from the parent plant seeds of pea

plant also dispersed in the way.

Dispersal by wind:

Some plants are very light in weight and can be easily carried away by the wind to far off

places.

E.g cotton seed, seeds of grasses.

Page 12: IQBAL MEMORIAL INSTITUTE GIRLS WINGiqbalmemorialinstitute.com/images/downloads/wa/5g.pdf · persons to accept Islam. Abu Bakr was very strict in word and action. He took active part

12

Dispersal by water:

Seeds of plants that grow near or in water are light, spongy or have fibrous outer covering

to help them float in water and disperse to far off places with flowering water. E.g coconut

and lotus.

Q8 Describe two main crops seasons in India.

Ans. The two main crop seasons in India are:

1. Rabi crops: These are also known as winter crops. These are sown in the month of October-

November and harvested in March-April. Main Rabi crops are wheat gram, mustard, pea,

barely.

2. Kharif crops: These are also known as summer crops. These are sown in June-July and

harvested in September-October. Main Kharif crops are rice, maize, cotton, groundnuts, bajra

etc.

Q9 Describe the process of preparing the soil before sowing seeds.

Ans. Before sowing a crop farmers prepare the soil by ploughing. This makes soil loose and turns

the top soil to bring the fertile soil up. Manure is added to increase fertility.

Q10 What is irrigation? Name few sources of water for irrigation. What are the two modern

ways of irrigation?

Ans. The process of watering the crops is known as irrigation. The main sources of water for

irrigation are rains, wells, tube wells, ponds, rivers, lakes and cannels.

The two modern ways of irrigation are sprinkler system and drip irrigation.

Q11 What are fertilizers? Name different types of natural and chemical fertilizer. What are

the advantages of using fertilizer?

Ans. Chemical added to the soil to increase its fertility are known as fertilizers. The different

types of natural and chemical fertilizers are as:

Natural fertilizers: Include the cow dung and compost made by the decomposing

biodegradable waste.

Chemical fertilizers: are prepared in factories e.g urea ammonium sulphate potash and super

phosphate.

The advantages of using fertilizers are to increase the fertility of soil. They improve the

quality of soil and water retaining capacity.

Q12 How is harvesting and thrashing done traditionally? What is the modern way of doing

it?

Ans Harvesting means cutting of the crop after it is mature and threshing means separating seeds

from the chaff. Tradionally it was done manually using sickle but now a days it is done by

harvesters, threshers and combines. A harvester is a machine to harvest the crop whereas a

thresher seperates the seeds from the chaff.

Q13 Why should the grains be stored in a granary?

Ans. The grains should be stored in granaries to protect them from moisture pests, rats, insects

and microbes.

Solved Winter Assignment of Computers for Class 5th

.

Chapter 2:- Data and Storage Media

Q5:- Answer the following:-

Ans a) (i) RAM: RAM is volatile in nature. Programs and data can be written to and erased from

the RAM as needed. RAM does not retain its bit configuration when the power is

turned off.

ROM: ROM is non volatile in nature. The contents in locations in ROM cannot be

changed. It holds instructions that run the computer when it is first turned on (BIOS)

(ii) Internal Memory: temporary stores the data while programs are running. Internal

memory uses micro conductors, that are fast, specialized electronic circuits. Internal

memory corresponds to what we call random access memory.

Auxiliary Memory: Also called physical memory stores information over the long

term, including after the computer is turned off. It corresponds to magnetic storage

devices such as hard drive as well as the read only memory.

Ans b): The secondary storage device refers to any volatile storage device that is internal or

external to the computer.

The four features of the secondary storage device are:

1) Storage devices hold data, even when the computer is turned off.

2) The physical material that actually holds the data is called the storage medium.

3) The surface of a floppy disc is the storage medium.

4) The two primary storage technologies are: magnetic and optical.

16

Ans c): Data is the name that is given to basic facts such as names, numbers, pictures, graphs,

special symbols etc.

Types of data are;

1) Linguistic data or typed data in machine language can be numeric, alphabetic and

alpha numeric.

2) Graphic data may be in the form of images, pictures, graphs, icons.

3) Animated data may be in the form of audio or video or combination of both.
