Message From Principal

We might normally think of these things in terms of how they apply to adults, but we can also

think of the ways they apply to students. Older students have a responsibility to show kindness,

fairness, and mercy to younger students because they are looked up to as role models for all. At

the same time, younger students should be taught to respect those who are older in

appreciation for the care they are shown.

When we think of respect and responsibility together,

consider the following statements made by

Prophet Muhammad (p) with regard to children:

Anas ibn Malik said, “I never saw anyone who was more

compassionate towards children than God's Messenger (p)".

[Muslim]

Among the many lessons we can draw from these hadith:

•Our responsibility toward children is to care for them and raise them with kindness and

tenderness.

•Children have rights and they should be treated accordingly so they will learn how to be just and

fair as they grow based on their childhood experiences.

•Older people should make allowances for younger people out of mercy while younger people

should be patient with those who are older out of respect.

The Prophet Muhammad (p) said, “Be aware of God and treat

your children justly.” [Bukhari/Muslim]

The Prophet Muhammad (p) also said, “Whoever fails to show

mercy to our children and honor to our elders is not one of us.”

[Tirmidhî]

Inclement Weather Policy at IQA

When inclement weather is in the forecast, parents should monitor the local news

outlets for the latest information concerning school closings and delays.

IF/WHEN THE RICHARDSON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (RISD)

CLOSES, DELAYS, OR DISMISSES SCHOOL EARLY DUE TO BAD WEATHER,

THEN IQA WILL DO LIKEWISE.

IQA reserves the right to hold or cancel classes in spite of RISD determinations

if/when it is deemed appropriate. In such cases parents will be notified.

Two IQA Girls Complete Hifdh-ul-Quran

9th graders Tania Akhtar and Anushae Farooqi, completed their hifz on December 15th

(the last day before winter break) under the supervision of their teacher, Sr. Taghreed

Saleh. Their families and teachers were in attendance to witness this auspicious event. {Takbeer}

We are very proud of them, and we ask God to bless them and preserve them and

enable them to perfect their memorization and fulfill the responsibility of being

Preservers of His Book. They are an inspiration to us and we pray they will also inspire

their peers to continue to work toward the same achievement, as every student at IQA is expected to strive toward the Memorization of the Quran.

IQA Leadership Lecture Series BeginsSpecial guests Laith Hasanian and Laith Alqaisi joined us at IQA this week to

share their experiences in the tech industry working for companies such as

Tesla, Twitter, Google & Facebook. Laith Alqaisi was also accompanied by his

sisters who contributed to the Q&A panel as well as a rousing speech by

Nisreen Alqaisi about how she persisted to pursue her passion in spite of any

unwelcome stereotypes held toward Muslim women in the technology field. The

Leadership Lecture Series aims to bring various speakers throughout the year

to engage students in the upper grades on topics related to leadership and

personal growth. We look forward to hosting more guest speakers in the

months ahead.

5th Grader Aleena Hossain Wins IQA Spelling BeeIf anyone thought it would be tough for 4th and 5th graders to go up against middle

schoolers in the IQA Spelling Bee, we would have said they were probably right! But

then 5th grader Aleena Hossain took the win last Wednesday with 4th grader Zainab

Shah right behind her in second place. Mohammad Zoubi of 7th grade took 3rd.

Classroom spelling bees held during December produced champions for each grade

level but only the top 3 students from grades 4-8 were eligible to compete in the

schoolwide contest. In February, Aleena will be invited to represent IQA at the Dallas

County Spelling Bee to compete for a place in the Regional Bee which will be held in

March at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas. The top two participants of

the Regional Spelling Bee receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Washington, D.C. area to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
