The M'Zab Valley is a deep, desert valley dotted with five walled cities from the 11th century. Although each one is independent of the other, Ghardaïa is often used to refer to all five collectively. Each town sits on top of a rocky outcrop, with the surrounding sandstone houses leading up to a tall minaret that doubled as a watchtower. The architecture of the cities is of a Libyan-Berber style. The old town centres often contain large, fortress-like mosques and public buildings, with narrow lanes weaving down the hill to the walls. These cities sit within an oasis filled with palm and fruit trees, where locals would traditionally dwell in the hot summer. The locals have retained much of their tradition and customs, and travelers will be able to recognise this while visiting the area.

Aghlen Paradise is a palm grove of 7 hectares located 12 km from Ghardaïa, composed of a tourist infrastructure offering a space of sweetness and peace.

In the M’Zab valley, the spring holidays provide an opportunity for craftsmen from all parts of the country to exhibit and sell their carpets. Enlivened by Karkabou bands which play percussions based rhythms and fire gunshots in the air, this festival is an exotic tourist attraction. Visits to the five towns of the region are organized for tourists in M’Zab valley. A legendary market for auction sales is held in one of the towns, Béni-Izguen.More than a traditional festival, this event is an artistic contest in which craftsmen compete in a convivial atmosphere.

Only a few Italians come every year to Algeria. Most of them is in Algeria for job as in this country many Italian companies are operating in the construction and in the oil industry field.

The tourist presence of Italians is really limited and greatly diminished compared to a few years ago.However it should be noted a large number of visitors, Italian and foreign registered in the M'Zab valley at the end of December 2016This appears to be linked to the natural attractions, historical and architectural scattered throughout the wilaya of Ghardaia that have again attracted some visitors, after two years of destabilization particularly marked by violent clashes that left several victims.More specifically, it points out that 300 foreigners of different nationalities, including Italian, German and French, have visited the oasis of Ghardaia region, Zelfana and El-Menea. This constitutes a bet brilliantly supported by the National Tourism Office (Onat), which has stepped up efforts to give back to the valley known his true image allowing it to regain its greatness as a tourist destination.

2nd day, Tuesday 11th April - Visit to the M’zab valley08:30 Breakfast at the hotel

The day is dedicated to the visit of the oasis and of its small towns, with its historic districts, the

traditional houses, the market square, the craft shop. The M’zab,whose Ghardaia is the capital, is

the valley loved by the Corbusier and today is under guardianship of the UNESCO.Whit its

fortifield small towns, protected by boundary walls and guard towers, Ghardaia has charmed

Architects of all over the world.

Built in palm wood, stone, chalk, lime and sand, each one small town has its mosque and its

minaret. Furthermore, the “pentapolis” mozabita has a unique big palm grove consisting of a

million of date palms watered by a water distribution system that is almost 900 years old.

We will visit the walled town of Beni Isguen, holy town for excellence, caretaker of the ancient

traditions of the towns usually closed to foreigners where women clad entirely in white, showing

only the left eye to the outside world; Melika with its beautiful views on the oued and on the palm

grove; Bou Noura; and conclude at El Atteuf, the most ancient and smallest town of the M’zab

that is 9 km far from Ghardaia.

We will take breaks to enjoy coffee and fruit.

Coffee is popular in Algeria, but is served extremely strong along with a glass of water. However,

the preferred drink in Algeria is tea with a hint of fresh mint. Fruit drinks are also commonly

enjoyed.

We will have our lunch at 14:30 at the Chami fast food.

We will come back to the hotel at 20:00 and have dinner before the overnight staying.3nd day: Wednesday 12th April - Tour of GhardaiaThe day is entirely dedicated to the visit of the city. Ghardaia is an enchanting city as it is mostly

made up of original medieval architecture that has been preserved remarkably well.

The whitewashed houses stand out against the blue sky and the reddish brown desert soil. Ghardaia

is a perfect example of how homes can be built without defacing the beauty of nature. The streets

and houses seem to be carved into the hillside in a way that makes them blend into the landscape.

We will head uphill to the old market square that is much smaller than the modern one. There, we

will have the opportunity to discover and to savor the traditional Mozabite gastronomy.

During the visit, we will pass many traditional wells on the way, an indication of how important

water is to the M'Zab development. Then we will head to the highest point of the city where the

mosque is located.

This region boasts an outstanding example of the "foggara" that is an ingenious system of

irrigation by means of a culvert with small adjoining pits on the surface, which is based on the

inclination of the tunnel and on the difference of the temperature. If we have time in the afternoon,

we will end our day with a visit to this particular building.

In the evening, after dinner, we will be transferred to the resort Beau Rivage in Zelfana, a locality

60 km away, which is famous both for its many hot springs with a clear and beneficent water at a

temperature of more than 40 degrees and for those fine sand dunes which surround it and make it an

outstanding tourist site. Just a few meters away from the thermal baths, the complex "Beau Rivage"

is a place of rest and serenity for those in search of peacefulness. It is an ideal place to enjoy a

touristic getaway keeping all the facilities of a modern life.

We will stay at the resort Beau Rivage for 3 nights.

4th day, Thursday 13th April - Resort Beurivager and sightseeing El GoleaAfter the breakfast, we will be transferred with the resort taxi service to El Golea.

The resort staff will provide lunch that we will have during a break

We can taste the couscus and the Mechoui. The name Mechoui comes from an Arabic word

meaning “roast on a fire,” and like its namesake, the meal is prepared in much the same way as it

consists of meat spiced and roasted over a fire and is usually prepared for large gatherings.

El Golea is the capital of Wilaya, located southwest of Ghardaia, at the eastern border of the Grand

Erg Occidental at an elevation of 1,250 ft.

The town is a gateway to the Sahara in the south and contains an estimated number of 180,000 palm

trees within the oasis. The oasis itself lies beneath an escarpment rising up to 200 metres (660 ft.)

above. Some of the largest continuous areas of Saharan sand dunes begin just a few kilometres to

the west of the oasis. Thanks to its rich biodiversity, Ghardaia is among the most diverse

Mediterranean countries from the bioclimatic point of view, for morphology, flora and fauna.

Such ecological diversity spawned a wealth of landscapes and natural environments, which gives

the country an exceptional natural heritage.

Algerian biodiversity is considered among the highest in the Mediterranean, thanks to the presence,

among others , of very rare species such as the Audouin, the Kabylie Nuthatch, the Monk Seal and

the Barbery deer.

We will visit the Ksar El Ménia, a picturesque castle at the east end of the town.

There is a brief climb to reach the top, but the view of El Goléa town and the sorrounding regions is

quite spectacular. There is nobody regulating access to the ksar, so everybody can visit it at any

time and at no cost.

20:00 we will come back to Resort Beurivager. Dinner and overnight staying

5th day, Friday 14th April - Wellness treatments in the spa Resort BeurivagerIn the Resort Beurivager Beurivager, we will have the full board accommodation.

Despite the extreme modesty of the accommodation facilities at its disposal, the green vegetation of

the thermal oasis of Zelfana, which became a popular resort for its many hot springs and the

surronding golden sand dunes.

Nestled in the meanders of Hamada and the sand dunes, at the junction to Ouargla and the extreme

south at 400 metres above sea level, the wellness area is a real ecotourism site.

These thermal waters are very rich in minerals and especially in sodium chloride and they are

indicated for the treatment of the nervous system, respiratory, rheumatic diseases and some skin

diseases.

The Spa of Zelfana was created after the drilling made in 1956 for the construction of the highway

N°49.

6th day, Saturday 15th April – Visit to the desert

After breakfast, we will departure from the resort and head to the Sahara desert. We will go via Ouargla

(picturesque village of mud brick built around a castle) and arrive to El-Oued for overnight staying at

Hôtel La Gazelle d'Or.

Ouargla, capital of the desert and surrounded by five small oasis (called Sidi Khouiled, Chott,

Adjadja, Rouissat and Bamendil) is the administrative center of a well-watered oasis at the junction

of several Sahara desert caravan routes. Ouargla is located in the heart of a palm grove with more

than 500,000 productive trees.

Ouargla has a museum of Sahara desert life, which represents the best tourist attraction, as it has a

couple of good exhibitions of Saharan handicraft. At night, the orange glow from the burn-offs at

the oil plants, might be something interesting for you. Shopping of sand roses might be a good idea.

We will be at 14:30 at the Hotel EL Olf OUARGLA, where we will have a typical Algerian lunch.

We will then reach El Oued that was already inhabited in the Neolithic period as shown by the

Roman excavations and archaeological research during the colonial period in the 19th century and

20th century.

The houses have arches and domes that give a unique aesthetic value and satisfy the need of

insulation against the local climate conditions.

20:00 we will head to Hôtel La Gazelle d'Or, to have dinner before the overnight staying.
