IPM PRISM Of the three leadership archetypes, i.e. Business Developer, Functional Leader and Project Manager, in the days and months to come, the Project Manager archetype with all its accompanying competencies, will define the future of L&T. As we begin 2018, let us at the outset wish ourselves and our families the best in any project that we set ourselves to execute. It is believed that many of oriental origin have an external locus of control . This means that luck, destiny and forces external to them count most for them, in success and failure. While this may be a useful philosophy to cope with difficulties that we must face that are beyond our control, an important philosophy to imbibe in Project Management is to take responsibility and ownership. This means not blaming the environment however difficult it may be. Project Management begins with a fetish for detail. I would like to wish the readers of IPM PRISM a very eventful 2018 with more success stories in your projects and a very fulfilling professional journey throughout the year. L&T IPM endeavors to be a success partner in your professional journey and is constantly exploring new ways to connect you to the vast project management knowledge that resides in the company in the form of project experiences and global best practices. I am happy that IPM has already launched webinars and e‐ learning to facilitate flexible learning; please utilize these platforms to learn and share you project management experiences with the larger community of project professionals. I am also delighted to share that IPM will be launching new flagship programs in 2018 in collaboration with internationally renowned Universities, with up‐to‐date contents and innovative pedagogy. Please watch that space in the company announcements in the coming months. You will also see a new upgraded version of IPM PRISM from Apr 2018 onwards. I will also take the opportunity to encourage project professionals to use IPM PRISM as a platform to share their project management challenges and learning from your current projects so that such learning can be collective, collaborative and complementary. 2017 has been a year of new initiatives for IPM. We launched new

programs like SDA Bocconi program, started webinars, made Online

Education from CII assessable to all employees and of course, we

startedthisnewsletter“IPMPRISM”.Youwillfindthedetailsofthese

infollowingpages.Digitalizationiskeytransformationthatcompanyis

going through and we included subjects related to this in most of our

flagshipprograms.Inthisedition,weareintroducingabooktothereadersondigitalizationand

future editionsofnewupgraded IPMPRISM, youwill find regular articlesonDigitalizationand

digitaltransformation.

IPM’sSCDMs (specific competencydevelopmentmodules)arewell receivedbyparticipants,we

will add more of these in FY2018‐19 with special focus on contracts & claims, project profit

management and client relationship management. There will also announcements related to

The Power Transmission & Distribution arm of L&TConstruction has successfully commissioned the country’sfirst STATCOMproject forPowerGridCorporationof IndiaLtd.This±100MVARcapacitysystemisconnectedto400kVbusat400/220kVNPKuntaSubstationinAnantapurdistrictof AndhraPradesh. NPKunta Pooling Station ismeant forevacuating the power generated from the 1500 MW UltraMegaSolarParkcomingupinphases.Thisisalsoconnectedto 400kV Hindupur substation which has significant windgeneration. Due to daily/ monthly/ seasonal variations ofrenewablegenerationthegridvoltageispronetoinstability.The STATCOM is an advanced power electronic convertersystem that dynamically provides the much needed gridstabilitysupportandvoltagecontrol.KeyChallenges&Highlights:Being the first of its kind, the design and engineeringassociated with this state –of – art technology requiredfrequent interactions by L&T team with the customer andthe OEMs of highly customized products. Hyosungwas themain technologypartner.Many itemssuchas the400kVcoupling transformerswerespecific tothisapplicationandweremanufacturedforthefirsttimeinIndia.The turnkey solution was encompassing all the voltage levels viz. EHV, HV and LV ElectricalSystems. Totally 18 racks of valve modules each measuring a height of 5.2m and 2.5MT wereinstalledusingmobilecranes.Air tightwallbushings that take the liveconductor into thevalvehallwere installed at a height of 6munder confined conditions. Also requisite Civil, Structural,MechanicalsystemsofValveHall,ControlRoom,Switchyardwerealsoprovided.Project Schedule: PT&D secured the project in February 2016. This prestigious project wassuccessfullysynchronizedwiththeGridinJune2017.
