Due to the unrivalled high magnifi cations that can be achieved in digiscoping, it can be a challenging but also very rewarding method of telephoto photography. Try these useful tips to help you get the best from your digiscoping.

We recommend that you attach the supplied neck strap to the iPhone holder and wear it around your neck whilst in use.

If possible - use your iPhone headphones as a remote shutter release. The less contact you make with your phone when taking the shot, the less chance of camera shake resulting in a blurred image.

A sturdy tripod with a good, smooth video panning head is highly recommended to keep your digiscoping setup stable.

Good light is essential in digiscoping resulting in faster shutter speeds to help freeze the motion of your subject and minimise camera shake.

Detailed focusing and exposure settings By moving independently the positions of the AF target and AE target to the desired locations on the screen, the focusing and exposure can be separately controlled. In addition to the normal auto mode, it is possible to lock the focusing and exposure at their current values. When set to the touch mode, the screen can be tapped to implement the AF and AE operations one time and lock the values after implementation.

White Balance By changing from the auto mode to Lock, the current white balance condition can be maintained.

Electronic Zoom Range Setting Allows setting of the electronic zoom range. By adjusting the minimum zoom ratio, it is possible to prevent vignetting, the darkening at the periphery of images which occurs when binoculars or telephoto lenses are connected to an iPhone.

Image Flip When connecting an interchangeable lens from a universal camera to the iPhone without correction, the image will be inverted. By using image fl ip, it is possible to capture corrected images.

Various Shooting Modes In addition to normal photo shooting, it is possible to carry out movie, se-quential photo, and timer shooting. By using the movie or sequential photo functions, optimum shooting opportunities will not be missed even when photographing objects where it is diffi cult to judge the timing for pressing the shutter. The self timer option allows you to take the shot without touching the iphone - this reduces the risk of camera shake.

Image Size and Image Quality Settings In each of the shooting modes, the image size and image quality can be set individually.

Trimming Trim captured images by cropping the outside areas of the image and only saving the central area. The effective range of the image can be set by selecting an optional focal length.

Detailed EXIF Settings The equipment used to capture the images can be set by selecting from Kowa presets - KOWA’s scopes, eyepieces, and binoculars. The recording of the GPS information that indicates the shooting location can be switched on and off. By setting this to off, you can maintain the secrecy of the shooting location.

AF Zoom Function By double tapping on the screen, a zoom display of the AF mark area will be shown, which can be used to confi rm that the focusing has been correctly set.

Remote Shutter Release You can use your iPhone earphones as a shutter release cable* thus reducing the risk of camera shake. *Only works with iOS 5.
