CONTENT ASSESSMENT In Science, we’ll be finding out:
• What objects are made of • How we use different materials • How to test materials • How we can group materials • How to choose materials for specific
uses • Where materials come from
In Technology, we’ll be finding out: • How to plan and design a classroom
makeover.
In International, we’ll be finding out: • About the materials used to build our homes.
TEACHER’S ASSESSMENT Assessment takes place throughout the unit. The achievement of learning targets will be recorded on assessment sheets, providing evidence of your child’s learning in three specific areas: Knowledge – the ‘know about’ learning targets – will be assessed at the end of each subject component. Skills – the ‘be able to’ learning targets – will be observed and assessed whilst the children are doing them. Understanding – the ‘understand’ learning targets – will be evaluated by a judgement of observations carried out through the unit.
SELF-ASSESSMENT The children will carry out their own assessment at the end of the unit. They will use the following headings to list their newly acquired knowledge, skills and understanding:
• ‘New things I know about ’ • ‘New things that I can do’ • ‘New things I am beginning to understand’
Children will be asked to evaluate their learning
• What did they do well? • What could they do better? • What did they find most/least interesting?

In History, we’ll be finding out: • About the food that our parents and grandparents ate when
they were young • How and why the choice of food in our shops has changed • What our ancient ancestors ate
In Art, we’ll be finding out: • About artists that use food for their ideas • How to draw and paint fruit and vegetables • How artists are involved in things we see
around us, including advertising
In Technology, we’ll be finding out: • How to plan, make and evaluate a healthy pizza • How to make a box for a pizza
In Society, we’ll be finding out: • How food plays a role in celebrations and festivals • About our favourite family récipes
In International, we’ll be finding out: • About famine and drought around the world • Where drinking water comes from
