Lesson #1Calculate and

FindStudents are given a formula to solve.

40, 000 + 8,000 +300 + 10 + 5 = 48,315

After the problem is solved, the lesson is introduced

48,315 or 48315 is a zip code and students will use their iPad to access the free application Google Earth. They will use this application by typing in the zip code to find the position on the globe.

48315 is my zip code and I live in Shelby Township, MI. Michigan is the location.

Each student will be given a different math problem to solve.

Math problems will be predetermined.

Students may be given a zip code for a location in the United States or another country.

Lesson #2Research and

PresentAfter Google Earth helps students to identify their predetermined location they will research the country or state they are assigned to.

Free apps will be suggested to use and download on the iPad.

- The Weather Channel

- Tripit – Travel Organizer

- USA – Travel Guide

Gather Information

In a week students will be expected to gather their information to create a travel brochure.

The travel brochure will consist of:

- location and surrounding areas

- climate

- natural resources and habitat

- major attractions

- fun and leisure

- vivid pictures

From iPad to PCStudents will research information on their iPad and create the brochure on a regular PC in the classroom.

In the computer lab, the teacher will model and instruct students how to open and access the Word Brochure Template.

The template is user-friendly and students will be able to create their brochure without any complications.

Using a rubric students will input information and print when finished.

PresentationCreating the brochure is the fun part!

Be creative – find pictures, input data, use colors and font no bigger than 16.

Print in booklet format and fold as a hand held tri-fold.

When the class is finished, each student will present their travel brochure.

As a additional incentive to this project, the class will vote on the best brochure or the location they want to visit .

Display in the Classroom

From iPad to PC and calculate and research, this project is designed for students to become aware of the newest form of technology available.

The benefits include: students independence, knowledge of using applications and templates, and new knowledge of a geographic location.

Conducive to classrooms available with iPads and computer lab.

Teacher can have fun with this lesson too – add fun features to this project……create contests and competition for finding specific and unique information.
