KEVIN YOUNG begins his fi rst year as the Energy’s head coach after spending the 2010-2011 season as the head coach of the Utah Flash. While with Utah, Young compiled a 28-22 record and a play-off berth while leading the team to a franchise record nine game winning streak (Feb, 11 – March 5). The Flash lost to the Energy in a three-game set in the fi rst round of the 2010-2011 playoffs, but compiled its fi rst ever road playoff win at Wells Fargo Arena on April 11. Until being named head coach Young had served as the Flash’s second assistant coach for two seasons (2008-2010) and was the Director of Basketball Operations during the team’s inaugural season (2007-2008). Young, 30, made his head coaching debut at age 23, with the Shamrock Rovers Hoops of the Ireland Super League and the lead the team to the 2007 Nieva for men Irish Super League Play-offs for the fi rst time in four seasons while also serving as the club’s
general manager. Prior to the Flash, Young was an assistant coach with Utah Valley State (2005-2006) and Oxford College of Emory University (2004-2005). While at Utah Valley State Young helped the Wolverines achieve its second most wins in a season (16). In 2004-2005 he helped the Oxford College of Emory squad to 22-10 record and fi nish the tenth ranked team in the NJCAA. Young’s basketball career began at Sprayberry High School (Marietta, Georgia) where he was a two-time All-Cobb County selection. Went on to play his fi rst two years of college ball at Middle Georgia College (Cochran, Georgia) where he led the team to the 2002 NJCAA Region XVII championship and was a Region XVII All-Tournament selection that same year. Transferred to Clayton State University (Morrow, Georgia) for his junior and senior seasons where he is ranked 8th all-time in assists and 10th all-time in steals. He graduated with a degree in Integrative Studies from Clayton State in 2004.
GENE CROSS enters his fi rst season as an assistant coach with the Energy after spending the 2010-2011 campaign as an assistant coach with the Utah Flash along with current Energy head coach Kevin Young and assistant coach Norm de Silva. Prior to Flash, Cross’ spent 15 years in the NCAA while being a part of fi ve different universities’ coaching staffs. He began his assistant coaching career at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in 1996, when the UIC Flames fi nished with a 15-14 record and reached the MCC Tournament Championship where they lost to Baylor. He helped the Flames ties a school record with 22 wins during the 1997-1998 season. He helped UIC to NCAA Tournament berth in 2002, where they lost to future Final Four fi nisher Oklahoma. He then spent three seasons (2002-2005) as an assistant coach with DePaul Universi-ty appearing in the NCAA Tournament (2004) and the NIT (2005). Cross spent the 2005-2006 season as the top assistant coach of the University of Virginia helping the Cavaliers to the NIT. He spent the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons as an assistant coach at Notre Dame where he helped the team to the NCAA Torunament both seasons while serving under the 2007 and 2008 Big East Coach of the Year Mike Brey. He then left Notre Dame to become the head coach at the University of Toledo for two seasons (2008-2010). Cross walked-on to the University of Illinois basketball team in 1990, and gradu-ated with a bachelor’s degree in history. He later received his master’s degree in sports management from Ohio State University in 1996.
BRUCE WILSON is the only returning member of the 2010-2011 En-ergy coaching staff as he enters his second season with the club. He helped the Energy to its fi rst NBA D-League championship title during the 2010-2011 season. Prior to joining the Energy, Wilson was the head coach at Simpson College. Wilson compiled a 343-303 career record and the record of most wins by a Simpson head coach. His win total also ranked him among the top 50 active Division III men’s basketball coaches. Wilson has been named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year three times, won three IIAC League Championships, and has led Simpson College to three NCAA appearances as a coach and one as a player. Wilson was also named NCAA Division III West Region Coach of the Year in 1992. The former, All-IIAC Conference and All-
Region selection as a player was inducted into Simpson’s Hall of Fame in 1986.

NORM DE SILVA reunites with Energy head coach Kevin Young and assistant coach Gene Cross after serving as an assistant with the Utah Flash during the 2010-2011 season. His primary duties with the Flash last season were to scout all opponents and evaluating all
draft eligible players. De Silva spent the off-season working in basketball operations at A.T.T.A.C.K. Athletics in Chicago, where he has administered individual workouts for NBA and NCAA Division I players since 2008, where he has worked with NBA no-tables such as Dewayne Wade and Tracy McGrady. Prior to the Flash, de Silva was an assistant coach at the University of New Haven (Division II) where he also received his master’s degree in management. He played his college ball at Babson College (Wellesley, Mass.) where he led the team in assists his sophomore year (2006-2007) and received his bachelor’s degree in fi -nance. He was a McDonald’s All-American nominee his senior year while playing for Dartmouth High School (Dartmouth, Mass.).
