IOSH Managing Safety in the Extractive Industry Introduction: IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) is Europe’s leading professional body for Health and Safety practitioners. The institute works to advance the safety, health and welfare of people at work and those affected by work activities. We recognise the complexities of working within this industry sector and this course has been specifically designed by ourselves (and accredited by IOSH) for Supervisors and Managers working within a specialised working environment. This 4/5 day course ends with a formal examination, covering the topics necessary to manage safety in compliance with health and safety legislation, their company policy and contract requirements. The course also involves a short ‘in-company’ project designed to enable the course delegate to use the skills learned on the course. Objectives: To ensure that occupational health and safety requirements are appreciated by line managers, supervisors and SHE advisors working within this industry sector, and to enable them to review their own company or departmental systems for safety and use them effectively. Who Should Attend: Managers, Supervisors, Safety Executives and Safety Committee or personnel with specific roles and responsibilities.

IOSH Managing Safety in the Extractive Industry Introduction:

•   The Law (British Legal System -Civil and Criminal Law) •   Safety Management (SMS – HS(G)65 - Successful Health and Safety Management) •   Active Monitoring •   Reactive Monitoring (Accident Reporting and Investigation) •   Quarries Regulations (Roles and Responsibilities, Safety Inspections, Emergency Procedures) •   Risk Assessment and Risk Control (Common Hazards, including Quarry Vehicles, Work at

Height, Movement of People) •   Health and Safety Legislation (Confined Spaces, Manual Handling, LOLER, DSE, Noise, COSHH,

HAV, PPE etc.) •   Hazards – General •   Hazards – Organisation/Sector Specific •   Review and Audit •   Written and Practical Assessments •   Course Review

Duration:

We offer various delivery options:

•   5-day course with in-course workplace project (This is our preferred delivery option as delegates are supervised throughout the practical assessment, with the course tutor available to provide guidance as necessary).

•   4-day course with post-course workplace project.

Either of these delivery options can be provided on a 1 day per week basis as required.

NOTE:

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an IOSH accredited ‘Managing Safely in the Extractive Industry’ certificate. This qualification can be used as the basis from which delegates could progress further within the field of Health and Safety.

Courses may be held either at our Crewe training centre, your premises or a venue of your choice.
