Non-Food Item (NFI) Distribution

On 25 February IOM trucks loaded with NFIs (including 1360 socks kits 1351 blankets and 1300 hygiene kits) and basic lifesaving commodities reached Deir ez-Zor From 25 February to 4 March IOM carried out the dis-tribution and monitoring in coordination with a local NGO on ground the distribution reached 2600 dis-placed and affected households (13000 individuals) Based on the displaced and affected householdsrsquo needs IOM is planning to send an additional of 4000 hygiene kits The displaced population in Deir Ez-Zor is estimated to be over 517000 IDPs as of February 2014 (Source The Syria Integrated Needs Assessment (SINA) February 2014) Due to increase of violence in Aleppo and Hama IOM field staff in Idleb report that over 7750 displaced households are seeking a safe haven in parts of Idleb Armanaz Saraaqeb Kafr Ameem among others sub-districts The displaced households are in urgent need of mattresses plastic mats kitchen sets blankets hy-giene kits among other basic commodities IOM plans to mobilize goods from its warehouses in Damascus as well as partnersrsquo and vendorsrsquo warehouses to respond to the urgent needs in Idleb in the coming days Additionally during the reporting period IOM distribut-ed 18777 essential Non-Food Items (NFIs) to 43319 IDPs from Aleppo Hama Homs Idleb Lattakia Rural Damascus and Tartous living in host communities The NFI kits included blankets adult and baby diapers win-ter wear sock kits and house cleaning kits IOM was present for 99 of the distributions one of distributions in Idleb of 500 baby diapers was carried out by a local NGO The distributions for this period were conducted in cooperation with eight local NGOS namely Ahl Al-Sham Initiative Al Birr and Social Services Aoun Society Childcare Society Dar Anis Saadeh Eithar Association Inshaat Society and Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) Emergency Shelter Intervention On 18 February IOM conducted a technical assessment of one shelter in Da-mascus hosting 24 households (117 IDPs) Additionally IOM completed repair and rehabilitation works in two collective shelters in Rural Damascus one of the shel-ters is considered the biggest in the area hosting 520

households (2600 IDPs) Shelter repair works included installation of pre-fabricated Water Sanitation and Hy-giene (WASH) units as well as roof wall and window insulations winterization and safety measures During the reporting period IOM identified 50 collec-tive shelters in Quneitra (25) and Rural Damascus (25) Most of the shelters were public facilities functioning as schools mosques hospitals sports centres among others Since the beginning of the crisis 823 collective shelters have been identified of which 164 shelters have been assessed in six governorates (As-Suwayda Damascus Hama Homs Lattakia and Rural Damascus) 36298 IDPs have benefitted from emergency repairs of 93 col-lective shelters in five governorates (Damascus Hama Homs Lattakia and Rural Damascus) including 25 shel-ters where IOM applied additional winterization measures in two governorates (Damascus and Lattakia) hosting 8049 IDPs and 1529 IDPs have benefitted from shelter upgrade works in 183 unfinished apart-ments (356 living spaces rooms)

Repatriation to Stranded Migrants During the reporting period IOM provided repatriation assistance to 47 vulnerable stranded migrants to return to the Philippines (38) Ethiopia (6) Cameroon (2) and Morocco (1) All the stranded migrants assisted were vulnerable women without means to sustain their live-lihoods and limited access to food and health services IOM in coordination with diplomatic missions present in Syria and in the region facilitate the safe repatriation

Since the beginning of the crisis IOM has assisted a total of 1216323 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in 12 governorates in Syria through the provision of 434551 NFI kits including quilts mattresses hygiene kits house cleaning kits undergarments kitchen sets disability kits wheel chairs jerry cans rechargeable lights diapers and winterization items

Since the beginning of the crisis IOM has assisted 4254 stranded migrants to return to their countries of origin

of vulnerable stranded migrants to their country of origin Assistance for Refugees Accepted for Resettlement from Syria During the reporting period IOM provided re-settlement assistance to 110 refugees (65 females 45 males including 12 children) travelling to Romania (50) the United States of America (38) Canada (19) and Australia (3) The refugees were of Afghani Iraqi and Syrian origins The refugees travelled by road from Damascus to Beirut and then flew out of Rafic Hariri International Airport Since the beginning of the crisis IOM has provided resettlement assistance to 16923 refugees who have been re-settled in 17 countries Australia Austria Canada Denmark Finland France Germany Ireland Netherlands New Zealand Norway Romania Swaziland Sweden Switzerland United Kingdom and the United States of America Counter-trafficking Workshops in Damascus From 23 to 25 February IOM in coordination with the Ministry of So-cial Affairs conducted capacity building workshops for four local NGOs mandated on counter-trafficking The work-shops introduced the 31 participants (25 females 6 males) to the issue of human trafficking how to identify victims of trafficking and specialized services required and the role of the civil society in combating human trafficking through community based organizations and NGOs Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) During the reporting period four supervision sessions were provided for SOS caregivers from Damascus and Aleppo Additionally from 27 to 28 February IOM conducted the first training on non-violent communication and conflict mediation 33 community leaders volunteers sociologists psychologists and active field workers from Tartous and Lattakia as well as six local and inter-national NGOs and some ministries participated The second training is expected to take place end of April In February 2014 trainees from IOM art-based intervention training conducted 71 activity sessions in Damascus (55 ses-sions) Homs (6) Al-Hassakeh (4) and Rural Damascus (6)Around 884 children and youth of ages 5-20 years benefitted from the sessions Since the beginning of the crisis IOM has trained 666 professionals and community workers in Mental Health and Psychosocial Services with 102 shelter managers trained in MHPSS considerations on shelter management 27 pro-fessionals on art-based interventions 15 professionals received Training of Trainers (ToT) for frontline workers and 414 frontline workers trained on supportive communication and psychological first aid 45 SOS Children Village caregivers and 63 community workers and volunteers on non-violent communication In addition 102330 indirect beneficiaries (children youth and their families) have benefitted from IOMrsquos MHPSS activities Nadiarsquos Story

The deteriorating security situation took a heavy toll on Nadia and her family She her husband and their eight children left their hometown of Barzeh to seek refuge in Egypt During their time in Egypt her 62 year old husband was unable to find a source of income and one month ago they used the remainder of their savings to buy return tickets to Syria They returned to a damaged house only to find that all their belongings had been looted With the help of people from her local community in Barzeh Nadia was able rebuild some of the house to accommodate her family We cannot afford to rehabilitate it After our workshop was destroyed we cannot

make any income to support ourselves she says Nadia is also hosting her sister-in-law and her family who couldnrsquot return to their house as itrsquos located on the frontline Nadia and her family received NFIs during an inter-agency convoy on 8 February

Non-Food Items (NFI) Distribution

During the reporting period IOM distributed 475 NFI kits to 475 Syrian refugee households (2211 individuals) in Arbat camp 1431 supplementary kits including carpets towels cool boxes kitchen and storage items to 1431 Syr-ian refugee households (7620 individuals) in Qushtapa camp Gawilan camp and Akre camp and 1280 winteriza-tion kits containing kerosene heaters rechargeable lights hygiene and house cleaning items to 1280 Syrian refu-gee households (around 6300 individuals) in Basirma camp and Gawergosik camp Transportation Assistance to Syrian Refugees to reach Camps and Transit Sites

IOM is providing transportation assistance to Syrian refugee children living in and near Domiz camp at the request of the Department of Education UNICEF UNHCR and camp management Throughout the period from 4 January to 31 March IOM plans to transport a varying group of 275 children from their homes (in Domiz Phase 6) to school (in Domiz Phase 1) and vice versa From 24 February to end of September IOM plans to provide transportation assistance to 200 children from their homes in Domiz 2 to Nazdar and Derky schools in Domiz 1 and from 1 to 15 March IOM foresees transporting 500 children from Var City to newly constructed schools in Domiz 2 and vice ver-sa To date over 1000 Syrian refugee children have been able to safely and regularly continue their education

Since the beginning of the crisis 19905 Syrian refugee and Iraqi returnee households from Syria (around 99180 individuals) have benefitted from IOMrsquos NFI distributions

Since mid-July 2013 IOM has transported 57577 persons to camps transit sites schools and within camps

IOM OPERATIONS IN JORDAN

Emergency Transportation of Refugees

During the reporting period 8488 Syrian refugees (4459 women 4029 men including 4813 children) were transported from the Rabaarsquo al Sarhan Screening Centre to Zarsquoatri camp As IOM teams continue to medi-cally screen all arrivals to Zarsquoatri camp they reported that 129 individuals were identified with medical condi-tions requiring immediate referral for treatment All refugees receive refreshments hygiene kits and shoes upon arrival at the IOM reception centre in Zarsquoatri camp Immunization of New Arrivals

During the reporting period IOM immunized 6310 newly arrived Syrian refugees (6 months to 30 years) against Measles and 4517 refugees (new-born to 5-year-olds) against Polio 1876 children (6-month to 5-year-olds) received Vitamin A supplements Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and Awareness-Raising Activities

9386 Syrian refugees were screened during the re-porting period and five new cases were identified Since March 2012 IOM has confirmed 104 suspected cases and is providing directly observed therapy (DOT) and follow-up for 35 of these cases 66 cases have complet-ed their treatment successfully IOM provides screening for suspected cases DOT and awareness-raising through a medical team consisting of six doctors and nurses and 25 community health workers who work in the camps and urban communities Nationwide Immunization Campaign The third nation-wide round of polio immunization campaign is on-going The campaign started on 2 March and will con-tinue to 6 March targeting 915420 children under five years old including 100106 Syrian refugee children

IOM is supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) during the campaign by providing transportation to MoH mo-bile staff to the remote areas where some refugees reside IOM is also transporting the refugees to MoHrsquos centres where medical staff provide immunizations disseminate key messages and mobilize the communi-ty IOM assists MoH staff in vaccination covering the following areas Irbid Mafraq Karak Amman Balqa Marsquoan and Tafeleh Capacity Building Support to the Jordanian Border Guards On 27 and 28 February IOM launched the first of a series of capacity building workshops for Jordanian border guards coping with the arrival of thousands of refugees from Syria The workshops are designed to address the specific needs of the over-stretched border guards and to identify areas in which support is most needed The first workshop addressed human rights providing an overview of the legal framework within which the border guards operate in terms of Jordanian law and international humanitarian law General Situation in Emirate Jordanian Camp (EJC)

On 27 February a delegation from the Jordanian Minis-try of Communication and Technology visited the EJC camp The purpose of their visit was to thank IOM for the International Computer Driving Lesson (ICDL) courses implemented in the camp for the refugees The delegates met and talked to the refugees face-to-face In addition IOM staff prepared a small exhibition of mosaics sewing and weaving work created by the ref-ugees during IOMrsquos community participation pro-grammes

Since transport operations began in July 2012 IOM has transported 396201 Syrian refugees from border areas to camps

Since March 2012 272437 beneficiaries have partici-pated in TB information and awareness-raising ses-sions IOM continues to work with partners and the Ministry of Health to screen for and treat active cases of TB Since March 2012 IOM has screened 370326 Syrian refugees

Since March 2013 133303 Syrian refugees have been immunized against Polio and Measles in Zarsquoatri camp

Transit Assistance to Stranded Migrants and Refugees Accepted for Resettlement from Syria

During the reporting period IOM provided assistance to 123 Iraqi Palestinian and Afghani refugees who were accepted for resettlement via transit through Lebanon They included 73 female and 50 male passen-gers (14 of whom were children) and travelled onward to final destinations in Australia Canada New Zealand Norway Romania and the United States Assistance for Refugees Accepted for Resettlement IOM Beirut is coordinating with delegations from France and Norway about providing logistical support for interviews medical screenings cultural orientation and departure assistance for the resettlement of Syrian refugees to their countries Winterization and Non-Food Item (NFI) Distributions IOM continues to distribute winterization items for vul-nerable Syrian refugee households (including monthly fuel support as well as stoves and blankets for previ-ously unreached households) During the reporting pe-

riod IOM reached 460 households in North Lebanon 94 households in Mt Lebanon and 370 households in South Lebanon Furthermore in response to the latest influx of refu-gees to Arsal in the Bekaa IOM distributed NFIs through a local organization the Lebanese Relief Group for Syrian Refugees in close coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs In total 240 stoves 3210 blankets and 835 mattresses were distributed to over 3210 refugees Shelter Assistance to Vulnerable Syrian Refugee and Lebanese Returnee Households During the reporting period rental subsidies were distributed to 140 Syrian refugee households in Tripoli (including the areas of Abou Samra Mina Bab el-Ramel Bab el-Hadid Nejmeh Square Tall Souk el-Dahab Souk el-Attarine Bahsas and Nour Square) IOM distributed rental subsi-dies to 108 households in the Aley district of Mt Leba-non and Beirut Rehabilitation of Emergency Collective Shelters As part of IOMrsquos rehabilitation of the Manana collective shelter in the Zahrani region of South Lebanon equip-ment was procured to enhance the capacity of the

Since February 2013 IOM has assisted 6177 non-Syrian refugees and 1081 stranded migrants to transit through Lebanon

shelter management committee (made up of resident Syrian refugees) The items procured include fire extin-guishers rain boots raincoats flashlights basic first aid kits and shovels The rehabilitation is benefitting 73 Syr-ian refugee households (400 individuals) Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) During the reporting period 785 Syrian and Lebanese individuals received psychosocial support through a mobile team in the Saida district of South Lebanon (462 beneficiaries) and through expert staff the Dari commu-nity centre in the Bekaa (323 beneficiaries) Overall 205 women 39 men 92 adolescents and 449 children participated in the activities which included recreation-al educational and artistic mediation activities physi-cal activities awareness-raising sessions family support groups focus group sessions and individual counselling sessions Individual counselling sessions were given to 11 women and 22 men with specific psychosocial sup-port needs Primary Health Care Assistance for Syrian Refugees Lebanese Returnees and Lebanese Host Communities IOM continues to support three Primary Health Care centres (PHCs) in Tyre Nabatieh and Marwanieh in South Lebanon that offer medical services to Syrian ref-ugees Lebanese returnees and Lebanese host commu-nity members At the centres IOM is providing subsi-dized consultations free acute and chronic medications to beneficiaries and reimbursing medical and adminis-trative staff for additional working hours needed to ac-

commodate the increase in demand for services Be-tween 15 and 28 February services delivered to Syrian refugees included 712 primary healthcare consultations (226 male 446 female) 79 antenatal care visits and 21 vaccinations for children 84 members of the Lebanese host community also benefited from medical consulta-tions diagnostic tests and antenatal care during the reporting period Since the start of the project 2884 consultations have been provided to Syrian refugees and 301 to host com-munity members In addition an IOM community health team has reached a total of 1735 refugee fami-lies in the area informing them of the services availa-ble During the reporting period the same team offered health awareness sessions to 68 participants at the three PHCs Topics included HIV STDs and family planning personal hygiene scabies and lice and diabe-tes hypertension and cardiovascular diseases Livelihoods support for Lebanese Returnees As part of an emergency livelihood support project in South Leba-non and the Bekaa IOM has completed assessing and providing business counselling to 90 vulnerable Leba-nese returnee households in the Bekaa (70) and in the South (20) IOM Beirut is in the process of procuring items of a total value of USD 1500 per household to help them start a small business The equipment pro-cured includes items to establish a small barbershop grocery store or food stall among other small enter-prises

Winterization and NFIs for Out-of-Camp Population During the reporting period IOM and local partners continued with the distribution of winterisation items in Hatay province mainly in Kirikhan and 32 surrounding villages 703 blankets 723 pil-lows 569 mattresses 257 carpets were distributed to 348 Syri-an households (1790 individuals) Of the 348 households 233 were new arrivals to the area and to Turkey having fled the fighting in Aleppo and Hama Since mid-February to 3 March 32 villages were assessed and 308 Syrian households living in those villages were assisted IOM plans to continue to assess and provide assistance to new arrivals and has already begun an assessment in Kumlu district of Hatay province Additionally through a local NGO 32 tons of coal and 29

stoves were distributed to 326 households in Kirikhan and Reyhanli IOM in collaboration with local authorities started the provision of winterization items for 70 Syrian households

living in Adiyaman province (270 blankets 270 mattresses 25 stoves and 20 tons of coals) This assistance follows an initial assessment in the city to identify vulnerable Syrian households living in difficult conditions Since the beginning of the crisis more than 97000 Syrian nationals have benefited from IOMrsquos NFI distribution Transportation Services for Residents of Adiyaman Camp During the reporting period IOM and partners assisted 1324 Syrian nationals with transportation services from Adiyaman camp to medical facilities and social service cen-tres Additionally on 18 February IOM supported the transportation of 339 persons living outside of the camp in Viransehir to Nusaybin camp A total of 20927 beneficiaries have been assisted with transportation services since the project began on 1 July 2013 Transportation of school children in Urfa province is continuing with IOM supporting 7780 students living outside of camps to reach the school On 3 March IOM undertook a monitoring mission to the schools in Urfa and met with school directors and some children who were happy with the transfers to schools In this regard the Ministry of Education requested a meeting with IOM to explore the expansion of this service for other children living outside of camps to access schools Voucher Programme Since 1 March IOM through implementing partners began supporting 1000 Syrian house-hold living in Kirikhan through the provision of ticket cards This programme will allow vulnerable households to purchase food and hygiene items from markets using their ticket cards to maintain a minimum living standard Altanrsquos Story

Altan arrived in Adiyaman camp nearly a year and a half ago fleeing the fighting in Syria with his wife and their two daughters and two sons His eldest daughter is married and the other children attend the school in the camp Altan and his son often use the transportation services provided by IOM in the camp to travel to the markets in the city centre to purchase items such as clothes shoes and household items for his family IOM accompanied him dur-ing a visit to the market where Altan bought a jacket for his daughter and two shawls for his wife IOMrsquos transportation services allow him to visit the mar-kets once every twenty days He uses it mostly to get out of the camp and wander around the town and purchase items his family require

Speaking both Turkish and Arabic Altan often helps other Syrians in the camp and during market visits with translations

households (2600 IDPs) Shelter repair works included installation of pre-fabricated Water Sanitation and Hy-giene (WASH) units as well as roof wall and window insulations winterization and safety measures During the reporting period IOM identified 50 collec-tive shelters in Quneitra (25) and Rural Damascus (25) Most of the shelters were public facilities functioning as schools mosques hospitals sports centres among others Since the beginning of the crisis 823 collective shelters have been identified of which 164 shelters have been assessed in six governorates (As-Suwayda Damascus Hama Homs Lattakia and Rural Damascus) 36298 IDPs have benefitted from emergency repairs of 93 col-lective shelters in five governorates (Damascus Hama Homs Lattakia and Rural Damascus) including 25 shel-ters where IOM applied additional winterization measures in two governorates (Damascus and Lattakia) hosting 8049 IDPs and 1529 IDPs have benefitted from shelter upgrade works in 183 unfinished apart-ments (356 living spaces rooms)

Repatriation to Stranded Migrants During the reporting period IOM provided repatriation assistance to 47 vulnerable stranded migrants to return to the Philippines (38) Ethiopia (6) Cameroon (2) and Morocco (1) All the stranded migrants assisted were vulnerable women without means to sustain their live-lihoods and limited access to food and health services IOM in coordination with diplomatic missions present in Syria and in the region facilitate the safe repatriation

The deteriorating security situation took a heavy toll on Nadia and her family She her husband and their eight children left their hometown of Barzeh to seek refuge in Egypt During their time in Egypt her 62 year old husband was unable to find a source of income and one month ago they used the remainder of their savings to buy return tickets to Syria They returned to a damaged house only to find that all their belongings had been looted With the help of people from her local community in Barzeh Nadia was able rebuild some of the house to accommodate her family We cannot afford to rehabilitate it After our workshop was destroyed we cannot

make any income to support ourselves she says Nadia is also hosting her sister-in-law and her family who couldnrsquot return to their house as itrsquos located on the frontline Nadia and her family received NFIs during an inter-agency convoy on 8 February

IOM is providing transportation assistance to Syrian refugee children living in and near Domiz camp at the request of the Department of Education UNICEF UNHCR and camp management Throughout the period from 4 January to 31 March IOM plans to transport a varying group of 275 children from their homes (in Domiz Phase 6) to school (in Domiz Phase 1) and vice versa From 24 February to end of September IOM plans to provide transportation assistance to 200 children from their homes in Domiz 2 to Nazdar and Derky schools in Domiz 1 and from 1 to 15 March IOM foresees transporting 500 children from Var City to newly constructed schools in Domiz 2 and vice ver-sa To date over 1000 Syrian refugee children have been able to safely and regularly continue their education

During the reporting period 8488 Syrian refugees (4459 women 4029 men including 4813 children) were transported from the Rabaarsquo al Sarhan Screening Centre to Zarsquoatri camp As IOM teams continue to medi-cally screen all arrivals to Zarsquoatri camp they reported that 129 individuals were identified with medical condi-tions requiring immediate referral for treatment All refugees receive refreshments hygiene kits and shoes upon arrival at the IOM reception centre in Zarsquoatri camp Immunization of New Arrivals

During the reporting period IOM immunized 6310 newly arrived Syrian refugees (6 months to 30 years) against Measles and 4517 refugees (new-born to 5-year-olds) against Polio 1876 children (6-month to 5-year-olds) received Vitamin A supplements Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and Awareness-Raising Activities

9386 Syrian refugees were screened during the re-porting period and five new cases were identified Since March 2012 IOM has confirmed 104 suspected cases and is providing directly observed therapy (DOT) and follow-up for 35 of these cases 66 cases have complet-ed their treatment successfully IOM provides screening for suspected cases DOT and awareness-raising through a medical team consisting of six doctors and nurses and 25 community health workers who work in the camps and urban communities Nationwide Immunization Campaign The third nation-wide round of polio immunization campaign is on-going The campaign started on 2 March and will con-tinue to 6 March targeting 915420 children under five years old including 100106 Syrian refugee children

IOM is supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) during the campaign by providing transportation to MoH mo-bile staff to the remote areas where some refugees reside IOM is also transporting the refugees to MoHrsquos centres where medical staff provide immunizations disseminate key messages and mobilize the communi-ty IOM assists MoH staff in vaccination covering the following areas Irbid Mafraq Karak Amman Balqa Marsquoan and Tafeleh Capacity Building Support to the Jordanian Border Guards On 27 and 28 February IOM launched the first of a series of capacity building workshops for Jordanian border guards coping with the arrival of thousands of refugees from Syria The workshops are designed to address the specific needs of the over-stretched border guards and to identify areas in which support is most needed The first workshop addressed human rights providing an overview of the legal framework within which the border guards operate in terms of Jordanian law and international humanitarian law General Situation in Emirate Jordanian Camp (EJC)

On 27 February a delegation from the Jordanian Minis-try of Communication and Technology visited the EJC camp The purpose of their visit was to thank IOM for the International Computer Driving Lesson (ICDL) courses implemented in the camp for the refugees The delegates met and talked to the refugees face-to-face In addition IOM staff prepared a small exhibition of mosaics sewing and weaving work created by the ref-ugees during IOMrsquos community participation pro-grammes

Since transport operations began in July 2012 IOM has transported 396201 Syrian refugees from border areas to camps

Transit Assistance to Stranded Migrants and Refugees Accepted for Resettlement from Syria

During the reporting period IOM provided assistance to 123 Iraqi Palestinian and Afghani refugees who were accepted for resettlement via transit through Lebanon They included 73 female and 50 male passen-gers (14 of whom were children) and travelled onward to final destinations in Australia Canada New Zealand Norway Romania and the United States Assistance for Refugees Accepted for Resettlement IOM Beirut is coordinating with delegations from France and Norway about providing logistical support for interviews medical screenings cultural orientation and departure assistance for the resettlement of Syrian refugees to their countries Winterization and Non-Food Item (NFI) Distributions IOM continues to distribute winterization items for vul-nerable Syrian refugee households (including monthly fuel support as well as stoves and blankets for previ-ously unreached households) During the reporting pe-

riod IOM reached 460 households in North Lebanon 94 households in Mt Lebanon and 370 households in South Lebanon Furthermore in response to the latest influx of refu-gees to Arsal in the Bekaa IOM distributed NFIs through a local organization the Lebanese Relief Group for Syrian Refugees in close coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs In total 240 stoves 3210 blankets and 835 mattresses were distributed to over 3210 refugees Shelter Assistance to Vulnerable Syrian Refugee and Lebanese Returnee Households During the reporting period rental subsidies were distributed to 140 Syrian refugee households in Tripoli (including the areas of Abou Samra Mina Bab el-Ramel Bab el-Hadid Nejmeh Square Tall Souk el-Dahab Souk el-Attarine Bahsas and Nour Square) IOM distributed rental subsi-dies to 108 households in the Aley district of Mt Leba-non and Beirut Rehabilitation of Emergency Collective Shelters As part of IOMrsquos rehabilitation of the Manana collective shelter in the Zahrani region of South Lebanon equip-ment was procured to enhance the capacity of the

shelter management committee (made up of resident Syrian refugees) The items procured include fire extin-guishers rain boots raincoats flashlights basic first aid kits and shovels The rehabilitation is benefitting 73 Syr-ian refugee households (400 individuals) Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) During the reporting period 785 Syrian and Lebanese individuals received psychosocial support through a mobile team in the Saida district of South Lebanon (462 beneficiaries) and through expert staff the Dari commu-nity centre in the Bekaa (323 beneficiaries) Overall 205 women 39 men 92 adolescents and 449 children participated in the activities which included recreation-al educational and artistic mediation activities physi-cal activities awareness-raising sessions family support groups focus group sessions and individual counselling sessions Individual counselling sessions were given to 11 women and 22 men with specific psychosocial sup-port needs Primary Health Care Assistance for Syrian Refugees Lebanese Returnees and Lebanese Host Communities IOM continues to support three Primary Health Care centres (PHCs) in Tyre Nabatieh and Marwanieh in South Lebanon that offer medical services to Syrian ref-ugees Lebanese returnees and Lebanese host commu-nity members At the centres IOM is providing subsi-dized consultations free acute and chronic medications to beneficiaries and reimbursing medical and adminis-trative staff for additional working hours needed to ac-

commodate the increase in demand for services Be-tween 15 and 28 February services delivered to Syrian refugees included 712 primary healthcare consultations (226 male 446 female) 79 antenatal care visits and 21 vaccinations for children 84 members of the Lebanese host community also benefited from medical consulta-tions diagnostic tests and antenatal care during the reporting period Since the start of the project 2884 consultations have been provided to Syrian refugees and 301 to host com-munity members In addition an IOM community health team has reached a total of 1735 refugee fami-lies in the area informing them of the services availa-ble During the reporting period the same team offered health awareness sessions to 68 participants at the three PHCs Topics included HIV STDs and family planning personal hygiene scabies and lice and diabe-tes hypertension and cardiovascular diseases Livelihoods support for Lebanese Returnees As part of an emergency livelihood support project in South Leba-non and the Bekaa IOM has completed assessing and providing business counselling to 90 vulnerable Leba-nese returnee households in the Bekaa (70) and in the South (20) IOM Beirut is in the process of procuring items of a total value of USD 1500 per household to help them start a small business The equipment pro-cured includes items to establish a small barbershop grocery store or food stall among other small enter-prises

Winterization and NFIs for Out-of-Camp Population During the reporting period IOM and local partners continued with the distribution of winterisation items in Hatay province mainly in Kirikhan and 32 surrounding villages 703 blankets 723 pil-lows 569 mattresses 257 carpets were distributed to 348 Syri-an households (1790 individuals) Of the 348 households 233 were new arrivals to the area and to Turkey having fled the fighting in Aleppo and Hama Since mid-February to 3 March 32 villages were assessed and 308 Syrian households living in those villages were assisted IOM plans to continue to assess and provide assistance to new arrivals and has already begun an assessment in Kumlu district of Hatay province Additionally through a local NGO 32 tons of coal and 29

stoves were distributed to 326 households in Kirikhan and Reyhanli IOM in collaboration with local authorities started the provision of winterization items for 70 Syrian households

living in Adiyaman province (270 blankets 270 mattresses 25 stoves and 20 tons of coals) This assistance follows an initial assessment in the city to identify vulnerable Syrian households living in difficult conditions Since the beginning of the crisis more than 97000 Syrian nationals have benefited from IOMrsquos NFI distribution Transportation Services for Residents of Adiyaman Camp During the reporting period IOM and partners assisted 1324 Syrian nationals with transportation services from Adiyaman camp to medical facilities and social service cen-tres Additionally on 18 February IOM supported the transportation of 339 persons living outside of the camp in Viransehir to Nusaybin camp A total of 20927 beneficiaries have been assisted with transportation services since the project began on 1 July 2013 Transportation of school children in Urfa province is continuing with IOM supporting 7780 students living outside of camps to reach the school On 3 March IOM undertook a monitoring mission to the schools in Urfa and met with school directors and some children who were happy with the transfers to schools In this regard the Ministry of Education requested a meeting with IOM to explore the expansion of this service for other children living outside of camps to access schools Voucher Programme Since 1 March IOM through implementing partners began supporting 1000 Syrian house-hold living in Kirikhan through the provision of ticket cards This programme will allow vulnerable households to purchase food and hygiene items from markets using their ticket cards to maintain a minimum living standard Altanrsquos Story

Altan arrived in Adiyaman camp nearly a year and a half ago fleeing the fighting in Syria with his wife and their two daughters and two sons His eldest daughter is married and the other children attend the school in the camp Altan and his son often use the transportation services provided by IOM in the camp to travel to the markets in the city centre to purchase items such as clothes shoes and household items for his family IOM accompanied him dur-ing a visit to the market where Altan bought a jacket for his daughter and two shawls for his wife IOMrsquos transportation services allow him to visit the mar-kets once every twenty days He uses it mostly to get out of the camp and wander around the town and purchase items his family require

Speaking both Turkish and Arabic Altan often helps other Syrians in the camp and during market visits with translations

Altan arrived in Adiyaman camp nearly a year and a half ago fleeing the fighting in Syria with his wife and their two daughters and two sons His eldest daughter is married and the other children attend the school in the camp Altan and his son often use the transportation services provided by IOM in the camp to travel to the markets in the city centre to purchase items such as clothes shoes and household items for his family IOM accompanied him dur-ing a visit to the market where Altan bought a jacket for his daughter and two shawls for his wife IOMrsquos transportation services allow him to visit the mar-kets once every twenty days He uses it mostly to get out of the camp and wander around the town and purchase items his family require

Speaking both Turkish and Arabic Altan often helps other Syrians in the camp and during market visits with translations

IOM is providing transportation assistance to Syrian refugee children living in and near Domiz camp at the request of the Department of Education UNICEF UNHCR and camp management Throughout the period from 4 January to 31 March IOM plans to transport a varying group of 275 children from their homes (in Domiz Phase 6) to school (in Domiz Phase 1) and vice versa From 24 February to end of September IOM plans to provide transportation assistance to 200 children from their homes in Domiz 2 to Nazdar and Derky schools in Domiz 1 and from 1 to 15 March IOM foresees transporting 500 children from Var City to newly constructed schools in Domiz 2 and vice ver-sa To date over 1000 Syrian refugee children have been able to safely and regularly continue their education

During the reporting period IOM immunized 6310 newly arrived Syrian refugees (6 months to 30 years) against Measles and 4517 refugees (new-born to 5-year-olds) against Polio 1876 children (6-month to 5-year-olds) received Vitamin A supplements Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and Awareness-Raising Activities

9386 Syrian refugees were screened during the re-porting period and five new cases were identified Since March 2012 IOM has confirmed 104 suspected cases and is providing directly observed therapy (DOT) and follow-up for 35 of these cases 66 cases have complet-ed their treatment successfully IOM provides screening for suspected cases DOT and awareness-raising through a medical team consisting of six doctors and nurses and 25 community health workers who work in the camps and urban communities Nationwide Immunization Campaign The third nation-wide round of polio immunization campaign is on-going The campaign started on 2 March and will con-tinue to 6 March targeting 915420 children under five years old including 100106 Syrian refugee children

During the reporting period IOM provided assistance to 123 Iraqi Palestinian and Afghani refugees who were accepted for resettlement via transit through Lebanon They included 73 female and 50 male passen-gers (14 of whom were children) and travelled onward to final destinations in Australia Canada New Zealand Norway Romania and the United States Assistance for Refugees Accepted for Resettlement IOM Beirut is coordinating with delegations from France and Norway about providing logistical support for interviews medical screenings cultural orientation and departure assistance for the resettlement of Syrian refugees to their countries Winterization and Non-Food Item (NFI) Distributions IOM continues to distribute winterization items for vul-nerable Syrian refugee households (including monthly fuel support as well as stoves and blankets for previ-ously unreached households) During the reporting pe-

riod IOM reached 460 households in North Lebanon 94 households in Mt Lebanon and 370 households in South Lebanon Furthermore in response to the latest influx of refu-gees to Arsal in the Bekaa IOM distributed NFIs through a local organization the Lebanese Relief Group for Syrian Refugees in close coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs In total 240 stoves 3210 blankets and 835 mattresses were distributed to over 3210 refugees Shelter Assistance to Vulnerable Syrian Refugee and Lebanese Returnee Households During the reporting period rental subsidies were distributed to 140 Syrian refugee households in Tripoli (including the areas of Abou Samra Mina Bab el-Ramel Bab el-Hadid Nejmeh Square Tall Souk el-Dahab Souk el-Attarine Bahsas and Nour Square) IOM distributed rental subsi-dies to 108 households in the Aley district of Mt Leba-non and Beirut Rehabilitation of Emergency Collective Shelters As part of IOMrsquos rehabilitation of the Manana collective shelter in the Zahrani region of South Lebanon equip-ment was procured to enhance the capacity of the

Winterization and NFIs for Out-of-Camp Population During the reporting period IOM and local partners continued with the distribution of winterisation items in Hatay province mainly in Kirikhan and 32 surrounding villages 703 blankets 723 pil-lows 569 mattresses 257 carpets were distributed to 348 Syri-an households (1790 individuals) Of the 348 households 233 were new arrivals to the area and to Turkey having fled the fighting in Aleppo and Hama Since mid-February to 3 March 32 villages were assessed and 308 Syrian households living in those villages were assisted IOM plans to continue to assess and provide assistance to new arrivals and has already begun an assessment in Kumlu district of Hatay province Additionally through a local NGO 32 tons of coal and 29

Altan arrived in Adiyaman camp nearly a year and a half ago fleeing the fighting in Syria with his wife and their two daughters and two sons His eldest daughter is married and the other children attend the school in the camp Altan and his son often use the transportation services provided by IOM in the camp to travel to the markets in the city centre to purchase items such as clothes shoes and household items for his family IOM accompanied him dur-ing a visit to the market where Altan bought a jacket for his daughter and two shawls for his wife IOMrsquos transportation services allow him to visit the mar-kets once every twenty days He uses it mostly to get out of the camp and wander around the town and purchase items his family require
