The Institute of Coding The Institute of Coding (IoC) is a large national consortium of government, employers, educators, and outreach organisations that is co-developing new courses and activities that will help a larger and more diverse group of learners into digital careers.

The government’s announcement of £20-millon in funding for the IoC in January 2018 was a response to the UK’s digital skills gap and to three primary challenges recognised by government, employers and educators. These challenges are:

• an insufficient volume and high demand for UK digital and IT specialists, • poor diversity and inclusion in the digital sector, and • misalignment between skills provision and employer needs.

The IoC is addressing these challenges by forming new relationships and building programmes that respond to both industry and learners’ needs.

Visit the IoC website for more information: https://instituteofcoding.org/

Digital Badging The IoC are demonstrating our badging technology at the conference. When you check in, you will be given a pouch with a card displaying your name, job title and employer (if applicable), and a plastic card with your name on it. This is your digital badge card and will allow you to swipe in and collect badges at 6 badge stations located around the conference. To collect each badge, you must complete a task which then entitles you to swipe in at the relevant station. If you complete all the tasks, you will be awarded a ‘Super Badge’.

Badging is a crucial element of the IoC’s toolkit to transform computing education. This form of micro accreditation allows the IoC to give credit for learning whenever and wherever it occurs. Find out more by visiting the Open University exhibition stand in the Haslett room – don’t forget to swipe!

Catering There will be refreshments provided at different intervals throughout both days as well as lunch.

Lunch

A fork buffet designed to be eaten whilst standing up – perfect for networking!

All buffets include:

• Three main dishes, including a vegetarian option • One pudding • Sides: seasonal salad, vegetables, potatoes, rice or couscous, Artisan breads and oils,

A vegan alternative is available if you have specified this requirement during online registration.

If you have any severe allergies, please do ask the catering staff if you have any concerns.
