    Occupation: United States Representative

    Education and Qualifications:Two years ago, as a retired COLONELwith 26 years of service in the US Marine Corps, I asked for yourtrust to become your Congressman. Having been awarded the BronzeStar and two Purple Hearts for my time in Vietnam, I witnessed greatsacrifices by my fellow Americans and pledged to ensure their effortswould not be in vain.

    As your Congressman, Ive honored that commitment by fighting fora balanced budget, for our veterans, to keep jobs in America, and todefend our way of life.

    I fought to pass a balanced budget plan to reduce the deficit by $4.6trillion over the next ten years, strengthen Americas economy, andprotect Medicare for seniors. I voted over ten times to defund, delay,and replace Obamacare.

    I fought to restore the Cost of Living Adjustment for ALL veteransand for the in-state college tuition rate they deserve. I supported theKeystone pipeline because it would put 20,000 Americans to work.

    In Inyo County, Ive worked to ensure that public lands are used forthe public good. That means allowing use of places like Death ValleyNational Park for events and races which help our local economy.

    STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FORSTATE SENATOR, 8TH DISTRICT

    TOM BERRYHILL AGE: 60

    Occupation: Farmer/Legislator

    Education and Qualifications: As a fourth generation Central Valleyfarmer and independent businessman, Im proud so many communityleaders and respected organizations want me re-elected to the StateSenate. A few examples: Im endorsed by Fresno County Sheriff MargaretMims, the California Grape & Tree Fruit League President Barry Bidwelland CDF Firefighters, the largest fire department in the state.

    During my service, I wrote legislation that would end environmentalregulatory abuses and stop frivolous lawsuits that are costing our Valley

    jobs. In fact, the (CSBA) California Small Business Association namedme the 2013 Senate Legislator of the Year.

    One important law I authored cracked down on metal theft, a seriousproblem thats plaguing the Central Valley and costing farmers,businesses, local government and public schools millions of dollars peryear in property damage.

    I have fought to build more water storage facilities, stop the early release

    of dangerous convicts and opposed tax hikes. I was also appointedchairman of the bi-partisan Rural Caucus thats worked to help ouragricultural economy.     Education and Qualifications: As a former Bishop Union HighSchool graduate, I believe in preserving the quality of education inour rural schools. Ensuring that students have a solid education that

    prepares them to engage in their community, trade, and/or chosenprofession is critical. As a working professional, wife, and mother oftwo children I want to work to ensure our local educational systemis the best it can be and offers students the educational skills neededto have a successful future. I have served as Director of Child SupportServices in Inyo and Mono Counties since January 2011. Prior tothat, I was employed as an attorney in the Inyo County CounselsOffice from 2005 to 2011.     Education and Qualifications: I am a 1976 graduate of the Bishopschool system and received my undergraduate degree from StanfordUniversity in 1980. I received my Masters in Business Administrationfrom the University of Chicago in 1984, and spent nearly 20 yearsin a career in healthcare and hospital management. My husbandand I have three children; one is in high school and the other twoare recent BUHS graduates. I have valued education my entire life,and nothing is more important to me than the education of ourcommunitys children. As our nations changing economy hasdemonstrated, without a strong education our childrens futures arelimited.

    I have served on the BUSD Board since 2006 and understand thechallenges and opportunities facing our schools. As a trustee, I keeplearning and achievement for all students as my primary focus. During

    my time on the board student achievement has steadily risen, butthere is much more to be done. We have a talented leadership teamand a faculty that is committed to improving student achievement.I am excited about the future, and respectfully ask for your supportin this election.

    Education and Qualifications: I was born and raised in SantaBarbara, CA and received my undergraduate degree from WestmontCollege in 2002. I completed a Masters degree in Agricultural andEnvironmental Chemistry at the University of California, Davis in

    2006. I then received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from theUniversity of California, Davis in 2011. My wife is a fifth generationBishop native and graduate of the Bishop school system. We havefour young children, including a third grader, and a kindergartenerat Bishop Union Elementary School.

    A mentor once told me Graduate from veterinary school, then learnhow to be a veterinarian. I believe this wise statement has a broaderapplication to education in general. The role of a school is to equipan individual with foundational tools necessary to pursue their chosenpath. The onus is then on the individual to use these too ls to completetheir journey. As a passionate lifelong learner who is still applyingthe tools Ive acquired through extensive schooling, I believe I bringunique perspective and appreciation for quality education. It wouldbe a distinct privilege to serve on the BUSD Board and ensure thatBishop students leave fully equipped with tools for the journey.

    KAREN K SCHWARTZ AGE: 41

    Occupation: Owner- Sage to Summit

    Education and Qualifications: It would be an honor to serve asa member of the Bishop City Council. I am deeply committed toour town, and want to make sure it continues to be a wonderfulcommunity for all residents. As Bishop faces challenges of tight

    budgets and limited resources, I want to be apart of decisions thatfoster economic prosperity so Bishop can thrive.

    As a downtown merchant and business owner, I interact with peoplewho spend money in our town. I can bring a perspective of thebenefits and challenges to operating a business in Bishop and howto create more tax dollars for our community. I have workedextensively on creating solutions to increase revenue for Sage toSummit and want to apply my experience to the City of Bishop. Asa member of the Bishop City Council, I want to foster good decisionsto continue to make Bishop an amazing place to live.

    Education and Qualifications: As an incumbent running for theoffice of Bishop City Council, I would sincerely appreciate yoursupport to continue my public service in this capacity. Theopportunities to contribute to our local government and to participatein the people's business has been inspiring and very rewarding tome. With your support I look forward to working hard and helpingto get things done for the city in the years ahead.

    A few of the projects I am looking forward to are: Continued studyand creative design through monthly budget workshops; Long termfinancial planning; Exploring and implementing InformationTechnology tools for greater efficiency and government transparency;Collaborate with partners, stakeholders and outside organizationsin order to provide opportunities to the city, our local businesscommunity and to our residents.

    Water and Sewer Commission, Board member of Inyo-MonoAssociation for the Handicapped; Treasurer of the Bishop CountryClub; Grand Knight for local Knights of Columbus Council 8628;President of the Bishop Chapter of the California WaterfowlAssociation and the California State Chapter of the National WildTurkey Federation; member of Lions Club and Elks Lodge.

    For 12 of my 33 years in law enforcement, I was with the BishopPolice Department and retired as Chief of Police in 2007. I have aBachelors Degree in Public Service Management from the Universityof Redlands and I hold a lifetime College Teaching Credential. I havetaught Emergency Management Response classes for 20 years. Icurrently teach/coordinate law enforcement classes for Cerro CosoCollege.

    I look forward to taking my service to the next level as a memberof Bishop City Council providing leadership, and representing you

    in a honest, fair and open manner.
