INSTALLATION GUIDE

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

The INX Digital Color Library installer consist of a .pkg file for macOS and a .msi file for

Windows OS. The installer provides a color library Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE) file

that can be used by several Adobe products.

1. Desktop Icon for macOS .pkg file

2. Desktop Icon for Windows OS .msi file

PREREQUISITES

In order to install and use the color library, there must be at least one of the following

Adobe products installed on the target computer:

Adobe InDesign

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Photoshop

INSTALLATION

Place the .pkg (for macOS computers) or .msi file (for Windows OS computers) on the

target computer at some location such as the Desktop. Double click the .pkg or .msi file

icon to launch the installer.

macOS INSTALLATION

After launching the installer, the Introduction screen is displayed.

INTRODUCTION

The Introduction screen provides general and contact information.

Press the Continue button to proceed.

access the license agreement acceptance.

INSTALL TYPE DIALOG

The Install Type shows the installation type of standard and the space in KB this product will use.

Press Install to continue the installation.

The installation progress dialog provides a status bar to track the progress of the installation. The

installation may take a few minutes to complete. Once the installation is complete, the

Continue button will become enabled. Press the Continue button to proceed to the summary.

SUMMARY DIALOG

The Summary dialog is presented at the end of the installation. Press the Close button to close

the summary window and complete the installation.

macOS UNINSTALL

The INX Digital Color Library may be uninstalled by removing the folder “INX Digital Color Library”

within the Adobe product application folder path. Note: Multiple versions of an Adobe product

can coexist on a computer. The INX Digital Color Library installer installs to every version found

for Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

Open a Finder Window from the dock.

Select the “Applications” folder under Favorites

10. Finder Window Applications Adobe Product folders

Expand the Adobe Product’s Presets folder

For each Adobe Photoshop product expand the Color Swatches folder

For each Adobe InDesign product expand the Swatch Libraries folder

For each Adobe Illustrator product expand the en_US/Swatches folder

For each Adobe product, right-click on the “INX Digital Color Library” folder and select “Move To

Trash”. Enter the user password if prompted.

WINDOWS OS INSTALLATION

After launching the installer, the License agreement is displayed.

Read and check the accept license terms checkbox. Press the Install button to

continue.

To continue installation and allow the installer to make changes to your hard drive, press Yes.

To cancel the installation, press No.

WINDOWS OS UNINSTALL

The INX Digital Color Library may be uninstalled by double clicking the .msi file icon or by

selecting uninstall in the Windows Control Panel Program and Features Window.

UNINSTALL SETUP WIZARD

The following setup dialog is presented when the product is already installed.

Press Next to continue to the setup options.

UNINSTALL SETUP OPTIONS

The Uninstall Setup Options dialog provides Change, Repair and Remove options. To remove

the product from the machine, press the Remove button.

If the uninstall fails, it may be necessary to restart the .msi and select repair. Once the repair

completes, try uninstalling again.

USERS GUIDE InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop all support the exchange of colors via Adobe Swatch

Exchange (ASE) files.

The INX Digital Color Library files consist of ASE files that can be used on a macOS or

Windows OS computer. The .ase file can be used with several Adobe products by

accessing it through the product’s swatches pallete or panel.

LOADING THE INX DIGITAL COLOR LIBRARY FILE

The INX Digital Color Library file can be opened from the main menu bar of any Adobe product.

When opened, the INX Digital Color Library is displayed in the Adobe product’s swatch

panel. The swatch panel displays the contents of the entire Library. View option provide

several different ways to display the library contents

Instructions are provided below for opening the INX Digital Color Library in the various Adobe

products.

Photoshop:

1. Open the swatch panel: Windows->Swatches.

- If the INX Digital Color Library has been previously opened, it may appear in

the swatch panel.

2. Click on upper right corner of panel to open the menu . Select view option small list

or large list to display the INX color names in the swatch panel

If the INX Digital Color Library is not already loaded, it may be necessary to navigate to the

library as shown below:

4. Locate the INX Digital Color Library file and select it.

- The library will then open in the swatches panel. It will ask you “Replace

current color swatches with the swatches from INX Digital 2-Piece Metal Color

Library?” Choose the appropriate option.

Illustrator:

1. Open the swatch panel: Window->Swatch Libraries->INX Digital Color Library-> INX

Digital 2-Piece Metal Color Library.

InDesign:

1. Open the swatch panel: Windows->Color->Swatches.

2. If the INX Digital Color Library swatches were previously imported, they will automatically

appear in the swatch panel. Otherwise, click on upper right corner of swatch panel to

open the menu .

3. Select Load Swatches.

4. Select the Adobe Swatch Exchange file type in the file type dropdown.

5. Navigate to the Adobe InDesign Product ‘s swatch library location and select the INX

ASE file.

E.g: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC 2017\Presets\Swatch Libraries\INX Digital

Color Library\ INX Digital 2-Piece Metal Color Library

6. Press the Open button to load the .ase file into the Swatch Panel.

An INX color swatch may be accessed directly in the “New Color Swatch” dialog.

1. If not already open, open the swatch panel: Windows->Color->Swatches.

2. Click on upper right corner of swatch panel to open the menu .

3. Select “New Color Swatch”.

4. Select the INX Digital Color Library file in the “Color Mode” drop down box.

5. Select desired colors to add to the active swatch book.

VIEWING OPTIONS

The Adobe Product’s Swatches Panel provides several different viewing options for

swatch library files. The viewing options can be selected by clicking the menu

button at the top right corner of the swatches panel and selecting one of the viewing

option types: name, list, or thumbnail. The name and list views show the color name

and color. The thumbnail view shows the color.

Photoshop

View Options: Tiny Thumbnail, Small Thumbnail, Large Thumbnail, Small List, Large List

Double-clicking on a swatch row or thumbnail color displays a dialog with the color swatch

name.

Illustrator:

The color name is displayed when the mouse hovers above a swatch color.

Double clicking on a swatch row or thumbnail, or selecting a thumbnail and performing

a right-click ->Swatch Options opens a Swatch Options dialog. The color name is

displayed in the swatch name field. Modifications may be made to the swatch here.

New Color Swatch

The New Color Swatch dialog allows creation of a new color swatch from the INX Digital Color

Library file.

1. Select New Color Swatch from the swatches panel menu.

2. Select the INX Color library from the Color Mode Drop down list.

3. Select one or more swatches from the color library and click Add. Note: To exit the New

Color Swatch dialog without adding any swatches, click Ok.

4. Click Done to complete the addition of color swatches.

WORKFLOW EXAMPLE

This section describes how a user could utilize the INX Digital Color Library in their pre-press

workflow.

The following workflow sequence creates a file in Adobe Photoshop and uses two spot colors

from the INX Digital Color Library. Next, a new file is created in Adobe Illustrator. The file

previously created in Photoshop is placed in the AI file. Text is added to the AI file using spot

colors that were automatically loaded when the Photoshop file was placed into the AI file.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP WORKFLOW

Create or open a CMYK Document

In Photoshop File->New

Set the Document’s Color Mode

In the New Document Window, set the Color Mode drop-down box to “CMYK Color”

Press the Create button

In the Swatches menu, find and select the INX Digital Color Library

If a swatch library was previously loaded, a prompt will be presented to either append or

replace the current swatch library

Press OK to replace

Create a new spot channel to draw the first image

Open the Channel panel if it is not already opened. Window->Channels

Select CMYK Channel from the Channels in the panel

Press the menu button to open the Channels menu

Select the New Spot Channel menu item

The New Spot Channel dialog will open.

Select the color for the New Spot Color

For Photoshop Creative Cloud versions

Select a color from the INX Digital Color Library loaded in the Swatches panel

The Name field and Color field will auto populate with the INX color name and color.

For earlier versions of Photoshop

If the auto population does not occur, it may be necessary to type in the name of the

INX color

To find the INX color name, set the viewing option for the swatch panel to small list or

large list

Do not change the name of the INX color.

Set the Solidity value

Create your image… Example: Draw an image in the document

Select the pen drawing tool from the left tool panel

Draw an image in the document

The pen strokes will be in the spot color that was just created.

Create a 2nd New Spot Channel

Follow the steps above to access the New Spot Channel dialog

Select a different color from the INX Digital Color Library in the Swatches panel

Remember to set the Solidity value

Press Ok button

USING THE PHOTOSHOP SPOT COLOR FILE IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

Create or open a CMYK Document

In Adobe Illustrator File->New

Set the Document’s Color Mode

In the New Document Window, set the Color Mode drop down box to “CMYK Color”.

Press the Create button

Place the Photoshop document into the opened Illustrator document

First, select File->Place to open the Placement window

In the Illustrator Placement window, navigate to the Photoshop file that was created earlier.

Select the Link check-box

Select the Photoshop file in the navigation pane

Press the Place button

Add Text or Other Graphic Elements to Your Design

For Example: Add text in the Illustrator document using the INX spot colors created in the

Photoshop document

Select the Text drawing tool from the left tool panel

Select the spot color from the Swatches panel

Type the text on the document

The text will be displayed in the selected spot color

Select the 2nd spot color

Type a second line of text on the document

The text will be displayed in the 2nd spot color

As can be seen below this workflow allows you to have spot color image and vector data in

your design which can then be passed over to proofing and production without the need for

further color separation processing.

LOCATION OF INX DIGITAL COLOR LIBRARY ASE FILE The INX Digital Color Library .ase file is installed in the folder “INX Digital Color Library” within the

Adobe Product folder. Note: Multiple versions of an Adobe product can coexist on a

computer. The INX Digital Color Library installer will install to every version found for Photoshop,

InDesign and Illustrator.
