A stroll in a green space may calm the mindand alter the mechanism of our brains andalso improve our psychological wellbeing, according to an interesting new study on thephysical effects on the brain after visitinggreen spaces. Most of us live in cities andexpend far less time outside in green, naturalspaces than people did some generations ago.Studies revealed that city dwellers have anelevated threat for depression, nervousness, melancholy and other mental illnesses thanpeople living outside metropolitan centers. These developments seem to be linked tosome extent, according to recent exploration.Various studies have found that urbanresidents, with little access to green spaces, have a higher incidence of psychologicalproblems than people living near parks andthat city dwellers who visit naturalenvironments have higher levels of happinesshormones immediately afterward, thanpeople who have not recently been outside. This phenomenon needs to be wellunderstood and highlighted. Doesexperiencing nature actually change ourbrains in some way that affects our emotionalhealth? To inculcate such healthy habits, aperson must start by enjoying the bounties ofnature and staying in such an environment forat least 10-15 days, to start with. The proposed Conference aims to create amap where tourists can be told about suchgreen spaces. The name, age, height andfacts about local flora of a green space/region can be included to inculcateawareness in the public. Also, open spacesaround forests can be allowed forreforestation by roping in tourists, companies, thereby also reducing the carbonfootprint. Experts on the flora and fauna ofUttar Pradesh can be invited and also fromthe ministry of tourism, so that thebiodiversity can be projected in such a waythat the tourists feel involved. Activities likenature trails, bird watching, life in tree

houses, rare trees, very old trees, forests, walking trails etc. can be related to calorieburning and concepts of well being. Lifestyles close to nature should be defined andit can be explained how lifestyleimprovement can improve health. For thispurpose an amalgamation of experts fromtourism industries as well as wellnessindustry need to brain storm and draw up aroad map for possibilities of such activities. The tourism industry concentrates on naturalbeauty as well as that of historic monuments. However, by bringing in the dimension ofwellness into tourism, where one canrejuvenate, far from the maddening crowd, can also be a way of expanding tourism of aplace.

To help create a roadmap for a sustainablewellness tourism economy for India through:Tapping of rich resources of nature andwildlifeInnovations in Healthy lifestyle and WellnesstourismEffective stakeholder communications
