The Power of Partnerships

Our community partners understand the importance and urgency of instilling today’s youth with ethics and business acumen. We work together to create programs, curriculum and opportunities for youth in our communities. Together, we make a more ethical workforce for tomorrow.

“We’ve had a tremendous response from the students and schools where we have facilitated the LIFT Ethics program. We work with many of the higher need schools in the Denver Metro area, so to see these students engaged and gaining important high level critical thinking skills is rewarding.”

– KELSEY GLASS Curriculum and Staff Development Manager, Youth Career Development Services, Goodwill Industries of Denver

working together to create both ethics education and opportunities

for students and youth.

“Because of tough times, I couldn’t count on financial support for college from my family. However, the BBB Student of Integrity scholarship has given me a huge jumpstart. I am excited to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Science, in hopes of becoming an airline captain. I have a huge beam of hope for my future. It is truly amazing to be named a Student of Integrity.”

– KAMIA BRADLEY, 2015 Student of Integrity Scholarship Recipient

Programs and Events

Although we serve as many students as possible, our programs have a tendency toward assisting youth who are economically challenged, at risk, or from diverse backgrounds. Our programs help guide these students to more successful futures and careers.

Scholarship Programs

Preparing an ethical workforce is essential in generating economic growth in Colorado. BBB Foundation scholarships provide opportunities for students who are faced with economic challenges to have a road to success. Scholarships awarded range from $1,000 to $10,000 and include both general scholarships as well as an industry specific scholarships. The BBB Foundation will honor and award scholarships at the celebration event.

TM

BBB Foundation offers the Student of Integrity Scholarships each year to students who have demonstrated character, leadership and ethical values. These scholarships provide students the opportunity to continue their education beyond high school in Colorado. These scholarships are also intended to create a long-term relationship between the BBB and the student, who, we hope will become a future Colorado business leader, promoting ethics in the marketplace.

FORTRUST HEALTH SCHOLAR

More nad more, the need for ethics and integrity in medicine is paramount. In one study published by JAMA, almost one third of patients presented ethical problems that influenced their health care. These scholarships will help students with a passion for medicine and a strong set of values pursue a degree in a medical field.

LITTLETON A STUDENT OF INTEGRITY SCHOLARSHIP

The HVAC industry is a $150 billion per year business nationally and employs millions of people around the globe, but this in-demand industry needs more talent here in Colorado. Littleton Heating & Air is teaming up with the BBB Foundation to offer scholarships to help students get on the road to this fast growing industry.

The LIFT program focuses on the importance of ethics and how it affects students right now and in the future. The workshop and project based learning curriculum offers scenario ethical dilemmas as well as personal character lessons. These lessons focus on topics like responsibility, character, values, and development. The certification concludes with each student presenting their project and signing the LIFT Commitment to Conduct. A shorter, non-certification class is also available.

ONLINE SAFETY PROGRAM Updating Curriculum 2016

Today’s youth use technology and digital communications more than any generation. As a result, they are more vulnerable to digital threats. This workshop covers many aspects of safe digital practices including; safely developing an online identity, cyberbullying, privacy, pros and cons of social media, and identity theft prevention. Experiential activities, peer-to-peer discussion and external assignments create engagement and initiate critical thinking about the concepts. In 2016, the Foundation is looking for partners and supporters to upgrade and rebrand this important program.

SCHOLARSHIP CELEBRATION AND FUNDRAISING EVENT

In 2016, the BBB Foundation is creating its first solo event focused on celebrating scholarship recipients and fundraising. The first event will be held in the spring of 2017, sending the recipients off to college knowing they have support from their community. Changing this event to spring will also allow more opportunities for a broader reach of students to apply. The Foundation is looking for partners and supporters to upgrade and rebrand this celebration and fundraising event.

The technology industry is one of the fastest growing industries globally and encompasses a variety of career paths within the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) degrees. Advanced technologies and new frontiers see no social or economic class systems; however, the cost to pursue the education to implement these world changing ideas can be a determent for many. These scholarships will help hardworking students pursue a college degree in the STEM related fields in hopes to advance the world around us.

Why We Invest “We became familiar with the BBB Foundation and the

scholarship program at the Torch Awards in 2011, where we

were the runner-up for a business ethics award two years in a

row. At the celebration dinner and awards, we were inspired

by the dedication and hard work of the scholarship recipients

to overcome adversity. Their drive for success and our passion

for growing technology encouraged us to partner with the

BBB Foundation to create a scholarship specifically for the

technology industry. In 2014, we supported our first scholarship

recipient, Walk Sanchez, and we still keep in touch.

Higher education and technology are ever changing the world,

and NexusTek wanted to be a part of a greater cause. When we

reached out to our network of clients and vendors for support

in our matching contribution to the scholarship fund, we were

overwhelmed by the support and willingness to give back to the

community. In 2015, we were able to award two students a total

of $15,000.

The most inspirational aspect isn’t about the money. To these

students, it’s the validation that someone believes in them and

has confidence they will make something for themselves. I

was honored to be more involved and serve on the judging

committee where I called schools to encourage applications;

I read the application and interviewed the finalist. The

application process is in-depth and the students applications

were inspiring to say the least.

I encourage more industries to start a vertical scholarship

with the BBB Foundation because the more we help educate

tomorrow’s workforce, they better lives we will all have.”

– VIVIAN JENNER, Marketing Director, NexusTek

“FORTRUST is a big advocate

of the LIFT Ethics program.

In today’s workforce, the soft

skills are becoming more of a

necessity but yet, it’s harder to

find employees who have those

skills. These skills are important

to all around customer service.

The LIFT program helps to

teach those skills early on in

the development of youth, and

it’s ingenious.”

– ROBERT MCCLARY Sr. Vice President & General Manager, FORTRUST
