Week of 14th September, 2015
Reflections—Middle School—Grade 6
Investiture Ceremony
The students of Middle School gathered in MPH 2 on the 17th of
September, 2015 for the Investiture Ceremony of the Middle School
Student Council. Students of Grades 8 and 9, along with the parents
of the members elected for the council, were present for the cere-
mony.
The assembly was inaugurated by the students of Grade 6, along
with Mr. Javed and with Dhruv Jain of Grade 9 on the table – the
room echoing to the strains of the “Ganesh Vandana”. This was
followed by the students of Grade 6 performing a dance choreo-
graphed by Mr. Akash.
Next, the members of the council of 2015-16 marched in, accompa-
nied by deafening uproars of hoots and cheers. After the members
of the council took their places on the stage, the comperes, Ayesha
Lal and Shivyaan Lakhina, invited Captain Rohit Sen Bajaj and Ms
Dimpu Sharma, to invest the council. It was a proud moment for all
of us to see the members of the council receive their sashes and
badges. The ceremony was followed by speeches from Captain Ro-
hit Sen Bajaj, Mr. Prashant Jain, and Ms. Dimpu Sharma respective-
ly. Mr. Prashant Jain congratulated us on being elected as members
of the student council. Captain Bajaj and Ms. Dimpu Sharma em-
phasized on the importance of being a student council member and
also emphasized on the impact we would have on the school, the
students, and the faculty. After the speech, it was followed by a
formal photograph with Mr. Prashant Jain, Captain Bajaj, and Ms
Sharma. It was truly a proud moment for us all!!

From the desk of the Principal
Dear newly elected members of the student council. To the students who have been elected again this is an affirmation of your leadership
skills. To the newly elected members this is your test by fire as you need to prove that the trust bestowed upon you by your peers and
teachers was warranted. You are the new role models of Middle School and you need to lead by thought and deed and raise the standards of
Middle School.
As Teachers and Parent we always want the best for you. We want you all to develop essential life skills that will help you better cope in
the world and grow into responsible, respected and valuable members of society. We want you to live by the school moto …Learn, work,
play, think and live
LEARN ….Never stop reading and learning and become lifelong learners. The more you read and learn, the more you open your mind to a
wide range of possibilities and know all sorts of things that make you smarter and wiser. Be readers of fiction. Learn to be open-minded and
receptive to learning from life situations (both positive and negative). Learn from other people who are good role models, your teachers
and your parents.
Work…Work Hard whether in academics or in your new assigned roles as members of the student council.
PLAY…. Play well with others. Today’s world has become a global village. The value of teamwork and accepting others with their differ-
ences cannot be over emphasized. Team up and work with others toward common goals. This way you instill in yourselves not only toler-
ance for divergent views, but also empathy and the will to take other people’s thoughts and feelings into account.
Think…Resolve disagreements amicably. Disagreements are inevitable in life, especially in today’s hyper-competitive, self-serving world.
You should practice the art of keeping a level head in the face of confrontations and disagreements. Take a deep breathe, weigh all sides
of an issue and ask questions like “why” and “what if.” That way you can focus on the problem and not the person, and it becomes easier
to control dangerous emotions like anger and rage.
LIVE… let your voice be heard, but in the right way. We teachers and parent can’t always be there to protect and defend you. Stand up for
yourselves, speak what’s on your mind boldly and respectfully, and lead the way when the situation calls for it. The ability to stand up for
yourself (and others), to communicate effectively and to lead are some of the most valuable skills anyone can possess in the modern world.
It should be learned early.
Apologize when you are wrong, and forgive when you are wronged. Everyone makes mistakes, but forgiveness can heal the worst of mis-
takes. There is no shame in asking for forgiveness and in forgiving others. In fact, asking for forgiveness and forgiving others is a mark of
true courage. Cultivate an attitude of forgiveness and move past hurts and wrongdoings.
Show kindness and help the less fortunate. Showing kindness is not only the right thing to do, but also the easiest way to touch a life. Show kindness and lend a helping hand whenever you can. When you show kindness you are not merely helping another you are helping yourself! Developing compassion will help you understand the differ-ence between wants and needs in life. Remain positive and focus more on the brighter side of life. Life is not all sunshine and rainbows. It is also not all gloom and doom. Life is a mix of good and bad experiences. If you focus on the positive side of life more than the negative, life isn’t so bad. Always remain positive, count your blessings and extract joy and happiness from “little” things in life, like a beautiful sunset or your wonderful families. Positivity and laughter can shield you from the stress, pain and malice in the world. Cleanliness, is next to godliness. Always be well groomed and neat in your appearance, good hygiene, good behavior and healthy living,
including eating well and exercising regularly.
And finally, Love is the greatest virtue of them all. Learn to love yourselves and others not for what they do, but for who they are.

Hindi Diwas
“You don’t associate with your mother-tongue, you
lose you identity; you lose your identity, you cease
to exist” - Swami Vivekananda
Sixty six years after Hindi had been chosen as the
national language of India, we, at Pathways School
Gurgaon celebrated this day with enthusiasm and
patrotic fervour. Hindi Diwas, literally translating
into “Hindi Day”, is celebrated in India on 14th Sep-
tember each year to draw attention to the promi-
nence of our language.
The Middle School students congregated to cele-
brate this day. The assembly commenced with a
dramatization of how we Indians are forgetting our
cultural roots. Hindi, the character, is deeply sad-
dened by society for not being acquainted with her.
The play highlighted the significance of Hindi in our
lives.
The second part of the assembly consisted of all
the Hindi MFL students, speaking dialogues from
films, or talking about popular Hindi writers and
poets. The Grade 7 students sang a song, emphasiz-
ing the importance of the language. The show end-
ed with an enjoyable Radio Jockey display from a
Grade 9 student.
Ms. Suman exhorted all the students on evoking our
national pride while reading, writing or speaking
Hindi.
Captain Bajaj, The School Director, then addressed
the students about how fortunate we are to have
such a diverse language as our mother tongue. He
emphasized that all Indians must be proud of the
language, for it is our identity.
