With more than 4.5 million jobs in the Delta region supporting a population of double this amount, our small businesses and entrepreneurs are critical to the success of the Region’s economy. In fact, DRA’s research bulletin, Jobs and Small Businesses, found that in the Delta 91 percent of all net new jobs created over the past two decades came from locally-owned establishments with nine or fewer employees.

In an effort to strengthen our Delta communities, the Delta Regional Authority has made investments into building a vibrant ecosystem for small businesses and entrepreneurs a priority since 2010. By investing in support services for existing small businesses and creating an innovative environment that allows entrepreneurs to create new businesses, the DRA is putting

greater emphasis on small business development as a local economic development strategy.

The DRA focuses policy efforts toward small business and entrepreneurship in five key areas: 1) Developing a Pipeline of Educated and Skilled Entrepreneurs 2) Cultivating Technology Exchange and Innovation 3) Improving Access to Affordable Capital 4) Promoting Awareness and Advancing Market Opportunities 5) Optimizing the Regulatory Environment

Each of these areas provides the support necessary to create a region where small businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive, continue to create good-paying jobs, and bring economic growth to the Delta.

DRA’s investments in small business and entrepreneurial communities throughout the Delta provide economic development and jobs to the Region’s communities and people.
