CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Makahiya Plant is a diffusely spreading, half-woody herb with branched stems up to
1 meter long, sparringly prickly with numerous deflexed, bristlt hairs. The leaves are very
sensitive, both pinnae and leaflets, folding when touched. Pinnae are usually four digitally-
arranged at the end of each petiole, and it is commonly widely distributed in the
Philippines in waste places, open grasslands and open thickets, at low and medium
altitudes in settled areas but the seed contains a toxic alkaloid, mimosine; a non-protein
alpha acid, known to cause hair loss and depress growth in mammals.

Amoeba is usually transmitted by the fecal-oral route, but it can also be transmitted
indireclty through contact with dirty hands or objects as well as by anal-oral semi-dorchant
and hardy structure found in feces. Any non-ecysted amobae or trophozoites die quickly
after leaving the body. This disease can be acquired from foods and dirty stuff but this
disease can be prevented by washing your hands always. (www.stuartxchange.com)
On the other hand, makahiya plant can be found anywhere in Iligan City like in our
village in Sta. Filomena or in Luinab Bahayan.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
This study aims to have an alternative treatment for Amoeba out of Mimosa Pudica
plant:
1. Evaluate the effectiveness of Mimosa Pudica roots.
2. Determine the concentration of the variables in making the home made medicine.
3. Compose Mimosa Pudica plant to sunthetic medicines sold in stores.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is projected to attest herbal medicines are able to degrade over synthetic
medicines. The researcher anticipates that the result of this study will provide necessary
information regarding the alternative treatment of amoeba. If this is so, this study will
benefit to the family who can’t afford the cost, can’t afford hospitalization and medicines.
Since this study is projected to attest whether makahiya plant is an effective alternative
medicine in curing amoeba over synthetic medicines. The researcher anticipates the result
of this study will provide necessary information regarding the alternative treatment of
amoeba. Thus, this benefits the low wage income or average income of the family.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This study limits on the areas where Makahiya Plant is abundant. The method of
extracting the juice is limited to 2 to 3 minutes. Its also limited to sprcific part of the plant
effective in curing the amoeba.
OPERATIONS AND DEFINITION OF TERMS:
Feces - waste matter
Extracting – to obtain
Degrade – underestimating
Toxic - can harm people and animals
Diffusely – adopted diffuse feeling
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERTURE
Makahiya Plant is found throughout the Philippines and is found wild everywhere in
the country. It is not cultivated and is considered a weed. The tagalog name and suggested
scientific name, means “sensitive”. The reason it is given this name is that upon human
touch the leaves contract and appear to wilt, but then open up again a short time later.
Makahiya plant is known as diuietic, and is considered alterant and anti-asthmatic. It is
used for urinary complaints and is useful in diseases arising from corrupt blood and bile.

Makahiya plant can also cure wounds. The study of its root extracts showed good
wound healing activity when compared to standard drug Gentamlan. In an incision wound
model, topical application of chloroform and methanolic root extracts showed wound-
healing activity with a significant rise in breaking strength, dry weight, and hydroxypoline
content of the granulation tissue. (www.stuartxchange.com)

RESEACH METHODOLOGY
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
INPUT
These were the materials that
the researcher needed, roots
of the makahiya plant,
stove,pot, knife/scissors, 3
cups of water, chopping
board, and weighing scale.
PROCESS
The processes that the
researcher did was to weigh 3
grams of makahiya roots then
place it into a pot with 3 cups
of water the baled the mixture
to 2-4 minutes. And transfer
the mixture into a glass and let
it cool to 2-5 minutes.
OUTPUT
The alternative medicine is
ready to drink.
MATERIALS NEEDED WERE:
Makahiya Roots 3 cups of water
Stove Chopping Board
Pot Knife
Scissors Weighing Scale
DATA GATERING PROCEDURES :
The preparation of the alternative medicine
Approximately 3 grams of Makahiya Roots were weighed. These were placed
in a pot with 3 cups of water. The mixture was boiled into 2-4 minutes in the
gas stove. After boiling the water will be placed into a glass and let it cooled
into 2-5 minutes .Once it cooled the alternative medicine is ready to drink
with the patient who is suffering amoeba. These process will be repeated until
the patient be able to recover.
ABSTRACT
This paper covers about the Makahiya Plant as an effective alternative medicine that
cures wounds. It tackles where the Makahiya can be found and how to determine if the
plant is really the Makahiya. It also discusses the process wherein it was discovered to have
healing abilities for physical injuries and the procedure on how to use the Makahiya for the
healing process. This paper, through trials and tests, have found out and finally concluded
that the Makahiya is as effective as regular medicines in drugstores for healing wounds.
CHAPTER IV
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
After doing the procedure above to prepare the Makahiya plant to be consumed by
the patient in need of the medicine, the researchers have proven that it is very effective as
an alternative medicine for healing wounds. If the patient takes the concoction 3 or more
times a day as an alternative for water, the healing process begins to take place after a
period of 5 days. After 2 weeks, the patient is mostly fully healed. The wound dries up and
closes without costing too much money for the patient or too much trouble applying or
slathering medicines on the wounds that sting.
CHAPTER V
CONCLUSION
After much discussion, research and testing, we have come to the conclusion that
the Makahiya plant is an effective and much cheaper alternative medicine for healing
wounds.
RECOMMENDATION
We, the researchers, recommend that for those who would like to continue this
research, that they try to discover more uses for the Makahiya plant or they should try to
find out more alternative medicines like it.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPLICATION
Nowadays, we discover new illnesses as our environment is being destroyed by a lot
of causes like pollution and the sort. We, living a fast-paced life, tend to rely on quick cures
but are burdened by the cost. This is where we should try out a much more body-friendly
and cheaper alternative medicine to over the counter costly medicines we find in drug
stores. By using this, we tend to lessen the costs of our everyday living thus giving way to
much more breathing space for us in terms of money.
