Presented by:Jacob A. TievyInvestigations Into Mathematics: Survey ProjectHow many years have you lived in Poolesville, MD?How Many Years Have You Lived in Poolesville?Number of Years Living in PoolesvilleNumber of People0 Years41 Year12 Years13 Years04 Years05 Years16 Years27 Years18 Years19 Years010 Years111 Years13Which graph more accurately represents the data that was collected?The first graph more accurately represents the data, as it properly demonstrates the scale of the sample sizeThe second graph is very misleading, as the scale would lead you to believe that each data point is almost equalThe mean for the data that I collected is: (0 x 4 = 0) + (1 x 1 = 1) + (2 x 1 = 2) + (3 x 0 = 0) + (4 x 0 = 0) + (5 x 1 = 5) + (6 x 2 = 12) + (7 x 1 = 7) + (8 x 1 = 8) + (9 x 0 = 0) +(10 x 1 = 10) + (11 x 13 = 143) = 188

188 / 25 = 7.52

MeanThe Mode for the data I collected is 11 years, since it is the most common number of years by far in my sample.

ModeThe Median for the data that I collected is 11 years. This is because over half of the people that I surveyed (13 out of 25 people) said that they have lived in Poolesville for 11 years.

MedianThe range for the data that I collected was 11 years. This is because the number of years that people have lived in Poolesville ranged from zero (0) years to eleven (11) years.

RangeThe mode is the best representation for the Central Tendency of the data that I collected. This is because over half of the people that I surveyed (13 out of 25) said that they have lived in Poolesville for 11 years.

Central TendencyMy sampling technique was a convenience sample. I surveyed 6th grade students at John Poole Middle School. My sampling was biased because I only surveyed sixth-graders, so their answers were limited to eleven or less. It was also biased because the survey was taken at a school in Poolesville, as opposed to a random location.
