Venotrex®

Legs and AnklesHeavy and Tight?

Poor leg circulation can present itself at any time, but is more common in women, especially after the age of 40 and during pregnancy.

Sitting or standing for a long time can cause blood to pool in the legs. Th e resulting increase in pressure can stretch vein walls and over time this can weaken the vein walls and damage the non-return valves. Th e circulation system has many tiny valves which close when the heart is on the off -beat. Th ese valves stop the blood from “falling down” due to the pull of gravity.

Historically, compression bandages have been used to force fl uid from the legs back into the circulatory system. When the return circulatory system is not working adequately the body can struggle to maintain normal fl uid balance. Body parts such as the ankles, thighs, hips and waist can be prone to fl uid balance problems, although other areas of the body can also be aff ected.

Various factors increase the probability that someone will develop issues with their leg vein health. Th ey are:• Hormonal changes during puberty,

pregnancy and menopause, the birth-control pill or other medicines that contain oestrogen and progesterone.

• Gender plays a role because vein problems are more common among women than men.

• During pregnancy there is a huge increase in the amount of blood in the body, which can put pressure on veins. Th e expanding uterus can also add to this pressure. Vein issues usually appear

within three months of delivery and the problem can compound with each additional pregnancy.

• Obesity, leg injury and prolonged standing can also weaken vein valves.Published health statistics show that

as many as 55 per cent of women and 45 per cent of men have some sort of vein problem.(1) Half the population aged 50 years and older were said to have signifi cant vein problems.

A key to good circulatory health is to ensure that the venous tone and capillary integrity are functioning at an optimum thereby helping with: normal blood return, balanced fl uid levels and healthy veins.

Th ese are some of the outcomes of a struggling venous system: • Aching and painful legs• Night leg cramps• Legs that tire easily• A sensation that the legs are heavy and

dragging• Legs that feel tight and full• In severe cases darkening of the skin• Prickly skin• Legs that feel like they belong to

someone else• Uncomfortable legs while sleeping

Help is at hand from Venotrex®, which contains a proprietary extract of the Aesculus hippocastanum seed, commonly called horse chestnut. Venotrex® was developed by Dr Willmar Schwabe Pharmaceuticals (Germany) and it has been sold worldwide for 17 years to millions of men and women.

Published scientifi c research shows

Venotrex® has an established safety profi le, supports vein health and assists in the maintenance of normal fl uid balance. Th e action of Venotrex in supporting vein health was reviewed in two independent studies both published in 1996. One involving 5,000 subjects and 800 general practitioners stated that the study showed that this horse chestnut extract was as eff ective as and preferable to compression therapy, because of greater subject compliance. Th e study indicated that there was social stigma associated with the wearing of stockings, the traditional approach to assist vein health; therefore many chose not to wear them.

Th e active ingredient in Venotrex® is purifi ed, stabilised and scientifi cally adjusted to provide consistency from batch to batch. Venotrex® is not a weight-loss product but it does help maintain vein health and normal fl uid balance. Tests and usage demonstrate that this product provides a well tolerated and natural formulation. Venotrex® should be taken for at least 8 to 12 weeks before the eff ect is assessed.
