TOPSIDESGenerally topsides comprises of production systems,supporting systems and accommodation for personnel. Itscontent is derived from the services it delivers in exploit-ing an oil and/or gas field. E.g. separate oil, gas and water,deliver power and other utilities or house personnel.

Is suppor srucure; i.e. Jacke, GBS, SEMI, TLP, SPARsor a floaing (monohull) vessels, is designed o supporhe opsides in he marine environmen and in somecases provide sorage o he produced liquids. THE SEMISUBMERSIBLE. TheSEMI is a specialized vessel wih good sabiliy

and sea keeping characerisics. I is commonly usedin a number o specific offshore roles such as or off-shore drilling rigs, oil producion plaorms and heavyli cranes. I can be dynamically posiioned or spreadmoored. The semi-submersible obains is buoyancyrom ponoons locaed below sea level. THE TENSIONLEG PLATFORM. TheTLPis a verically moored floaing srucure

used or oil & gas producion in waer dephs

normally greaer han 300 meers. The plaorm ispermanenly moored by means o groups o ehers(i.e. ension legs) a each o he srucures corners.The ension leg design eliminaes verical moion ohe plaorm, allowing he plaorm o have dry X-masrees on deck, conneced direcly o he subsea wellsby rigid risers. This allows a simpler well compleionand easier access or well inervenion.

TheSPAR plaorm is a deep-dra floaing caisson,which is a hollow cylindrical srucure similar o a verylarge buoy. The spar relies on a radiional spreadmooring sysem, o mainain is posiion. The SPARdesign is now being used or drilling and producion.The disinguishing eaure o a spar is is deep-drahull, which produces very avorable moion charac-erisics compared o oher floaing conceps. Lowmoions and a proeced cenre-well also provide anexcellen configuraion or deepwaer operaions.

THE FLOATING PRODUCTION, STORAGE ANDOFFLOADING UNIT.The FPSOis he dominan ype o FPU and consiuedaround 70% o he FPU marke in 2010. The FPSO is afloaing vessel designed o receive hydrocarbons pro-duced rom nearbyplaormsor subseaemplaes, sepa-rae he oil and gas and waer, and sore he oil unil i can

be offloaded ono aanker. The FPSOs are paricularlyeffecive in remoe or deepwaer locaions where subseapipelines are no cos effecive. In harsh environmenshe risers are conneced o he vessel, hrough a urre,which allows he vessel o weaher-wane. Alernaively,in benign environmens like Wes Arica he FPSO can bespread moored and risers conneced o he vessel a heside. FPSOs have hisorically been consruced by con-vering anker vessels or oil producion purposes, bu inrecen years here has been a shi owards purpose builFPSOs designed or given field parameers.

FPSOS FOR LIQUEFACTION OF NATURAL GAS.These are calledFLNG and here are currenly several

FLNG projecs in execuion. To menion a ew: Malaysiahas he PETRONAS Kanowi FLNG projec and Ausraliahas Shells Prelude FLNG projec.
