CALL TO WORSHIP Sister Erlene Adams

It is not good that man should be alone, Says the Lord. I will make for him a helper, A woman to have as his partner. Her speech seasoned with grace. Her ways productive and life-giving. Her soul thirsting after the true and Living God. She stands tall as an ambassador for Christ, Who reconciles and makes whole. Daily she makes her plea, Lord, make me the salt of the earth. Lord, let me be the light of the world.

WOMEN’S DAY LITANY Sister Madison Thomas

Today, First Missionary Baptist Church celebrates a group of individuals who possess unimpeachable intellect, spirit, courage, confidence, power, passion, beauty, and boldness. Today, we celebrate Women of God. We praise God for the creation of WOMAN. Made in the image of our Heavenly Father, a WOMAN so often sacrifices with an unselfish spirit that is embedded in her heart. We give honor to our ancestors who survived the unthinkable and the unjust because of her gender and skin tone. We honor those strong, praying women who nurtured their own, the community, and even their oppressors with the songs of Zion on their tongues and in their hearts, yet never lost their faith. We praise God for the evolution of WOMEN. On the backs of our ancestors, women stand in solidarity – Christ-tough. We can embrace our beauty despite being told we were ugly. We continue to be bold and strong, despite being deemed fragile and weak. We continue to encourage each other’s intellect and achievements, while still underpaid and undervalued. In spite of the discouragement and obstacles, we still rise because of God’s grace and mercy as shown by, Katherine Johnson, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisholm, Sandra Day O’Connor, Harriett Tubman, Dr. Mae Jemison, Sonia Sotomayor, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris, just to name a few. While we celebrate these victories, we remain resolved to do God’s work, in our churches, communities, workplaces, and around the globe! We praise God for the Endurance of WOMEN. Do not be surprised nor alarmed should you hear us shouting, singing, and/or humming, “Great is thy Faithfulness” as our trust in God is rewarded beyond that which the world recognizes. Only because “God Is,” have women excelled, from the washhouse to the White House. All: Lord, continue to strengthen all women throughout this nation. Let them continue to rise with greatness as they let their lights so shine that the world may see their good works and glorify You, our Father in heaven. Amen.

THE GREETING, BIRTHDAY RECOGNITION & WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING Sister Darlene Stanford

  • READING OF SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 5:13-16 Sister Joyce Arterberry

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
