What is SGMA?

Sustainable Groundwater Management Act

SGMA is a State law that requires the management of high and

When was SGMA passed by the Legislature?

• Passed by State legislature and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in 2014.  Enacted on January 1, 2015. 

• Compilation of three bills (AB1739, SB1168, SB1319)

Who is responsible for complying with 

SGMA?

Local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) are responsible for preparing and implementing Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs)to achieve sustainable groundwater management in their basins over a 20‐year period

Fillmore and Piru Basins GSA was formed to provide local control over SGMA compliance and management of the groundwater resources.
