1 Introduction to iCAN iCAN is for support staff such as executive secretaries, PAs and administrative assistants from all areas within the pharmaceutical industry. The aim is to inform, educate and offer development for those in the industry that want to learn more about their chosen profession. The benefits include: Attendance at three meetings per year Each meeting has three industry speaker slots. In general, these are the “Doc Spot” – covering a therapy area or health condition and two further sessions on industry aspects or issues requested by iCAN members. A list of the outstanding speakers and topics we have enjoyed over the last eight years is attached in Appendix I. The business intelligence gathered at iCAN can help members to understand the role of doctors, the drug delivery processes, modes of action and how their product might differ to others in the market place, the current industry issues as well as the many roles within the industry. It is also an opportunity for members to meet and network with each other (although they have perhaps worked on company alliances together). We are often asked to introduce people to one another as they know someone by name but have yet to meet them. Networking is not only the prerogative of the bosses! Recent introductions of workshop activities have provided a good networking opportunity as we mx the companies up into teams. In times of reducing training and department budgets, iCAN is an inexpensive way of providing education and career development for all areas of the pharmaceutical industry. Outstanding industry speakers The topics and speaker selection are all Member-driven emanating from the iCAN topic selector (Appendix II). Three times a year, the members are canvassed for their preferred topics (similar to our Pharmaceutical Directors Club). Their feedback is reviewed at the next iCAN steering group meeting and speakers are suggested for the most popular subjects. In this way, we can make sure that the topics are of interest, current and not duplicated. Speaker presentations Typically we provide electronic speaker slides at each of the three iCAN meetings as well as a paper copy so that members can make their own live notes on the presentations. We hear that members often pass on the presentations to their bosses for information! Promoting the Boss Several of our members have been asked to invite their boss to present at a iCAN meeting to explain their role in the industry. These could be General Managers, Managing Directors, Medical Directors, Marketing Executives, Regulatory Managers – the list is endless!

Introduction to iCAN

iCAN is for support staff such as executive secretaries, PAs and administrative assistants from all

areas within the pharmaceutical industry. The aim is to inform, educate and offer development for

those in the industry that want to learn more about their chosen profession. The benefits include:

Attendance at three meetings per year

Each meeting has three industry speaker slots. In general, these are the “Doc Spot” – covering a

therapy area or health condition and two further sessions on industry aspects or issues requested by

iCAN members. A list of the outstanding speakers and topics we have enjoyed over the last eight

years is attached in Appendix I.

The business intelligence gathered at iCAN can help members to understand the role of doctors, the

drug delivery processes, modes of action and how their product might differ to others in the market

place, the current industry issues as well as the many roles within the industry.

It is also an opportunity for members to meet and network with each other (although they have

perhaps worked on company alliances together). We are often asked to introduce people to one

another as they know someone by name but have yet to meet them. Networking is not only the

prerogative of the bosses! Recent introductions of workshop activities have provided a good

networking opportunity as we mx the companies up into teams.

In times of reducing training and department budgets, iCAN is an inexpensive way of providing

education and career development for all areas of the pharmaceutical industry.

Outstanding industry speakers

The topics and speaker selection are all Member-driven emanating from the iCAN topic selector

(Appendix II). Three times a year, the members are canvassed for their preferred topics (similar to

our Pharmaceutical Directors Club). Their feedback is reviewed at the next iCAN steering group

meeting and speakers are suggested for the most popular subjects. In this way, we can make sure

that the topics are of interest, current and not duplicated.

Speaker presentations

Typically we provide electronic speaker slides at each of the three iCAN meetings as well as a paper

copy so that members can make their own live notes on the presentations. We hear that members

often pass on the presentations to their bosses for information!

Promoting the Boss

Several of our members have been asked to invite their boss to present at a iCAN meeting to explain

their role in the industry. These could be General Managers, Managing Directors, Medical Directors,

Marketing Executives, Regulatory Managers – the list is endless!

Membership Booklet

Each member receives a booklet of members with their contact details should they want to contact

someone in between meetings.

Steering Group

The Club is given advice by the iCAN steering group, a small, senior group of PAs and EAs who

enthusiastically participate and contribute to the three steering group meetings. These Steering

group members review the Member feedback, select topics for future meetings and also assist in

looking after new members to the Club.

Enjoy the iCAN experience:

•Participate in three meetings per year

•Learn from outstanding industry speakers

•Network with members at each meeting

•Link with other members via the Member Booklet

•Get involved. Join the iCAN Steering Group

•Encourage iCAN’s future through your feedback

•Promote your Boss!

•Raise the status of top EAs, PAs, Secretaries and administrators!
