Introductiony Environmental Management is most important, yet it

is , most neglected discipline.

y It concerns life support system and is closely linked with development and economic growth.

y Today we stand at the crossroads in choosing betweenenvironment and development.

y The industrial countries have achieved high level of development and decent standard of living at the cost

of environment and depletion of natural resources.y Our dependence on nature is so great that we cannot

continue to live without protecting the Earthsenvironmental resource.

y The non-renewable sources are scarce and rare andsuch they are to be used in an optimal way without any

y Renewable resources also must not be over used orexploited.

y With the increase in the population there are morerequirements of goods and services.

y With rising income, people become more effluent ,they try to spend more and consume more which leadsto more production and exploitation of resources.

y The goal of environmental management is to findeffective ways to use limited resources.

y Exploitation of natural resources gives rise to

environmental degradation.y More over, expanding barren land and desert due to

insufficient rain fall , rising of temperature, falling of  water levels disappearance of variety of plants and

animals further add to environmental damage.y The pollution resulting from manufacturing of 

Products and System of air, water and land.

y So before it is delayed further, we must thoroughly 

understand the impact of environment and there isneed to adopt an approach that transforms theknowledge and understanding in to action.

y The word environment is a French word in origin, where environ means around or to surround.

y It is the interaction between living beings such as

plants and animals and their environment whichincludes physical non-living components like air,rivers, oceans or mountains.

Scope and Importance

y The environmental problems pose a great concern onevery body irrespective of status in the society and ourfuture existence in the planet is threatened.

ySome of the problem such as global warming orclimate change and ozone depletion affect everyone inthe world.

y Human comfort and standard of living are achieved at

the cost of destroying our scarce natural resources.y The economic growth of a nation has a direct link on

environmental problem.
