The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) is situated midway between Toronto and Montreal, and only two hours from Ottawa. The school board hosts the oldest English Catholic High School in Canada and its location has great importance in Canadian history as a major early settlement territory. The ALCDSB borders the world famous Algonquin Provincial Park, the mouth of the UNESCO World Heritage Rideau Canal, the famous Thousand Islands and many Indigenous communities.

We serve over 11,000 students in 32 elementary schools, five secondary schools and five adult learning sites. ALCDSB also offers a range of French as a Second Language (FSL) programs, including French Immersion, Core French and Extended French. French Immersion is offered at five locations across the board.

    Our Catholic District School Board

offers a wide range of programs across it’s Catholic system, including a focus on Indigenous education, outdoor education, and mental health and well-being. Our board also boasts numerous specialty programs, including 16 Specialist High Skills Majors, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs, Co-Operative Education and the World International Baccalaureate Program.

We closely work with our post-secondary partners including Queen’s University, Loyalist College and St. Lawrence College.

ALCDSB focuses on a Universal Design for Learning Framework, which allows the board to meet the needs of all learners by removing barriers and designing learning supports that are necessary for some but good for all learners.

The Homestay Family is an important part of the International Education experience for the student. Our Board strongly believes in a positive cross-cultural experience for both students and host families; all students must live in an approved homestay. Our board has an “in-house” homestay program which offers the following:

    • A home that is inspected, approved and over-seen by the Coordinator of International Education.

    • Homes are in small safe communities; in some cases within walking distance to the school or a short bus ride.

    • Inclusion in family events and activities.

“My room is great and very comfortable. The family is very nice. My host parents include me in the conversations and we love to play games as a family. They help me to get involved in activities.”

    – Victoria from Spain

“I chose to come to this school because I wanted the real Canadian experience and for some of the specialty courses. I love my school and have met many great friends.”

    – Tim from Germany
