Description

Thecoolerindicatorgauge,sometimescalledtheVortexindicatorgauge,isusedonsystemswerethereiscoolingrequiredafterpurging.Normallyafterthepurgingcycle,thereisasmallflowofprotectivegasrequiredtocompensateforleakages,andtokeepaconstantpressurewithintheenclosuresothattheingressofhazardousatmospherecannotgetinsidetheenclosure.Thisisknownaspressurization.Iftheequipmentinsidethepressurizedenclosurerequirescooling,eitherahigherflowrateofprotectivegasisrequiredthroughthepressurizationvalve,orasecondsourceofcoolinggasisintroducedintotheenclosure.Thestandarddifferentialpressuregaugewillindicatepressurizationonlyupto0.5inches(13mm)water,whichmaynotbeenoughforcoolingindication.Thecoolerindicatorgaugeisinstalledontothepressurization/purgepanel,andallowsmonitoringofthesystemduringnormaloperationofthepurge/pressurizationsystem.

ModelEPVenclosureprotectionventsareself-seatinggravitycontrolled,lowpressurereliefvalvesdesignedtoventilateexcessiveenclosurepressuresthatarecreatedbytheRapidExchange®process,orthefailureoftheenclosurepressurecontroldevices.Eachventfeaturesaseamlesscap,asparkarresting(SA)styleexhaustelement,afriction-freevalveassembly,abaseandamountinghub.Themountinghub,alongwithassociatedpipefittings,permitsdirectmountingthrougharoundcutoutonthetoporsideofaprotectedenclosure.ThisdevicefunctionsinconjunctionwithPepperl+Fuchsenclosureprotectionsystems,toreducethehazardous(classified)arearatingwithinprotectedenclosure(s),inaccordancewiththeNEC-NFPA70,Article500,NFPA496andISA12.4.Inaddition,thisdeviceprotectsenclosuresfromalllimitedsourcesofpressurerelief,regardlessofsource-i.e.unrelatedpneumaticequipment,suchasanalyzersorotherprocesscontrolormeasurementinstrumentation.

Operation

Pepperl+Fuchsenclosureprotectionventsoperateinamannersimilartoaself-closingswing-checkvalve,andmust,therefore,beinstalledinatrueverticalposition.Theybeginoperationwhenpressurewithintheprotectedenclosureexceeds0.65inches(16.5mm)ofwater±0.1inch(2.5mm).Whenthevalveseatcracks,pressureisimmediatelyreleased,andtheeffectsofgravitybeginyieldingtotheforcesofenclosureback-pressure.Eachventisdesignedtooperateinspecificconjunctionwithacross-sectionofPepperl+FuchsRapidExchangeandpressurization/purgingsystemsthatexhibitsimilarflowcharacteristics,inordertoventilatetheirmaximum(totalfailurecondition)flowrate,whilemaintainingnomorethan5to7inches(127mmto177mm)ofwaterpressurewithintheprotectedenclosure(s).*

Thetamperproofregulatorsfeatureamountingring,removablecapandhexkeyadjustmentstem.Theseregulatorshavea0-30psigauge,andareintendedforuseasaredundant,tamperproofregulatorforenclosureprotectionsystemmodels,ClassI,<2ft3andClassIIsystems,whenthesystemsareinstalledwithoutanenclosureprotectionvent.Thetamperproofregulatorcanbesubstitutedattimeoforder,uponrequest,toreplacethehandoperatedenclosurepressurecontrolregulatoronthesamemodelslistedabove.Thetamperproofregulatorisintendedtopreventtampering,whileallowingamorestablesetpointtobeachieved.Thissubstitutionisgenerallynecessaryforsmall,tightlysealedenclosureswhereprotectivegasflowiscriticallylowand,therefore,moredifficulttostabilize.Asanenhancement,itisdesignedtooffsetthepossibleneedformorecostly,precisionlowflowregulators(pleaseconsultfactoryformoreinformation).

ModelGPSK-1andGPSK-2general-purposeswitchkitsaresimilartoModelEPSK-1andEPSK-2above,butarenotratedforhazardousoutdoorlocationsandareintendedformountinginsidetheprotectedenclosure.Therefore,theswitchconnectionsarereversedsothatthehighportreferencesenclosurepressurewithavent,andthelowportreferencesatmosphericpressurewithtubingtothebulkheadunion.Theswitchesmustbewiredwithanintrinsicallysafealarmsignalcircuit,orbeconsideredasprotecteddevicesthatcanbedeenergizedalongwithallsimilardevicesbeforetheprotectedenclosureisopened.Alarmdevicesmaybeprotectedbyothersuitablemeans(suchasanexplosionproofbeaconorhorn,mountedexternally,withaconduitseal).

Model SRM Description

ModelSRM-4000switchresistormoduleisaninterfacedevicethatmustbefittedbetweenacustomer'sswitchandPepperl+FuchsISBbarrier,toactivateordeactivatetheintendedbarrier.TheModuleconsistsofaten-footcable,asmallplasticcaseanda6"two-wireleadthatisintendedfortheswitch.Wheninstalledcorrectly,themoduleallowstheISBtransformertodetectthreedistinctconditionsasfollows:(1)theswitchisopen,(2)theswitchisclosedand(3)thewireisbroken.ThelongcableendofthemoduleistypicallyinstalledthroughadedicatedentryonthesideoftheEPCU,andisroutedtothecustomer'sswitch.Thecablecanbeinstalledinfreeairtrayorconduit,andmustbeisolatedfromallotherpowersources.Theswitchorrelaycontactthatprovidestheswitchsignalmustbefullyisolatedfromallotherpowersources.

Model NJ... Sensor Description

ThemodelNj…NAMURproximitysensorisofferedasanalternativetousingthemodelSRM-400switchresistormoduleandacustomerfurnishedswitch.ItisaninterfacesensorthatfitsdirectlytothePepperl+FuchsISBbarrierandactivatesanddeactivatestheintendedbarrier.Whenplacedwithin1/16''ofametallicsurface,thesensorclosesandactivatestheintendedbarrier.Asthedetectormovesawayfromthemetallicsurface,thedetectoropensandthebarrierisdeactivated.NOTE:ItisnecessarytoreprogramtheEPCUwhenusingtheNj…NAMURproximitysensor.

ModelL(keyedalike)keylockassembliesarefactoryinstalledanodizedkeylockoperatorsthatmodifythepowercontrolswitchonaTypeXSystemEPCU.Theassembliesfeatureazincbodylockingcam,withastainlessspringcovercapandspringloadedlockoutplunger,aprecisionmachinedbody,mountingbaseandtwokeys.TheassembliesaremostcommonlyusedonanEPCUprogrammedtooperateinCB(conditionalbypass)powercontrolmodes(seeTypeXSystempowercontroloptions).

Model L Operation

Designfeaturesrequiretheoperatortoinsertthekeytotravelbetweenthe"Off"and"On"positions.Whenthe"On"positionisattained,thespringloadedplungerengagesanddropstothebodysurface.Inordertotraveltothe"Off"or"Bypass"positions,theoperatormustpulltheplungerupwardwiththeirfreehand,beforethekeywillturn.Thisdesignperformstwoveryimportantfunctions.First,itpreventstheEPCUfrombeingplacedinbypassunintentionally,whileattemptingtoturntheuniton.Second,itpreventstheEPCUfrombeingturnedoffunintentionally,whileattemptingtodisengagebypass.Thekeyisonlyremovableinthe"Off"and"On"positionstopreventorlimittheunattendedorunauthorizeduseofthebypassfeature.ModelLassembliescanalsobeutilizedwithEPCUsprogrammedforNR(NormalRunning).Intheseapplications,thebypasspositionisdisabledandthekeyisremovableintheonoroffposition.

Model RP1 & RP2

ModelRP1redundantsafepressureswitchesandModelRP2redundantRapidExchange®switchesarefactoryinstalleddifferentialpressureswitchesthatarewiredtooperateinserieswiththeswitchesincludedwithstandardEPCUs.Intheseapplications,theprimaryandredundantswitchmustbesatisfiedbeforetheEPCUwillinitiateorexecutestart-upfunctions(seeTypeXbulletinsEPCUoperation). Inspecialapplicationstheredundantswitchescanbewiredparalleltocreateadualchannelpurgingorpressurizationsystem,capableofprotectingtwoenclosuresseparatelyandsimultaneously.Pleaseconsultwithafactorysalesrepresentativeformoreinformation.
