The Cinémathèque is a compact cinema club situated in the old city of Dubrovnik.

It is an intimate and low-tech space restricted to one main staircase. In order to respond properly to the immediate surroundings, the film house is going to have up to 3 storeys. Student will design this building under the principles of simplicity, flexibility a playful game of double and triple heights.

It is all about cubic meters rather that square meters. The height of the Cinémathèque’s front has to response harmoniously according to the cultural, urban and architectural streetscape.

No car park and services are required. Up to 70% of the plot might be covered. The film house’s design has to consider an inner patio for cross ventilation and natural lighting and outdoor activities.

Themes: Urban History, Croatian Architecture & Building SystemsThis trip to Dubrovnik is a splendid opportunity to make short films about the city. Students, in groups (9), would need to think about sequencing, framing, story boarding and implementation. Everyone has filming ‘latent’ capacities on their mobile phones and cameras, so no special technology is required. This process will help them to view the city in a different way.

FRIDAYS: Tutorials from 10:30am to 18pm by external tutors

NOTE: Staff will also visit studio when we can outside these times. However, we all also have heavy research and administrative loads. We’d be grateful if you do not disturb us about design matters outside these studio hours.

If you wish to request specific provisions for Examinations / Class Tests, it is essential that you contact the Disability and Dyslexia Service as early as possible, as specific provisions can only be requested via the Disability and Dyslexia Service.

If you cannot pin up on time you must let us know before the tutorials or reviews

Computers, plotters and printers will be guaranteed to fail, run slow, be booked up before you:- Digital data should always be backed up regularly in two places- Have a draft version of your work to pin up if all else fails- Above all, be always prepared to display your design progress
