Summary
ShareTheMeal is an innovative and easy way to help end global hunger. With the free
app, smartphone users can share a meal with hungry Syrian refugee children. It costs just
US$0.50 to feed one child for a day. The food is provided by the United Nations
World Food Programme.
From 12 November 2015, the app will be available globally for iOS and Android users.
The test launch in German-speaking Europe in June 2015 proved that ShareTheMeal works:
more than 120,000 users provided more than 1.7 million meals to children in need in the
southern African country of Lesotho.
We support refugee children who have fled from the ongoing conflict in Syria. This is
the fifth year away from home for many Syrian children and their families. Many are in dire
situations, and every donation through the app makes a difference. ShareTheMeal’s goal is
to support 20,000 school children in Jordan for one year.
There are 2 billion smartphone users worldwide. Smartphone users outnumber hungry
children by 20 to 1 - together we can achieve a world with zero hunger.
ShareTheMeal was founded as a start-up and is now hosted in the United Nations
World Food Programme Innovations Accelerator.

Ending global hunger is within reach, but we should
accelerate progress
• 1 in 7 children around the world
do not have enough food to lead
a healthy, active life.
• Hunger and malnutrition are the
number one risk to health
worldwide — greater than AIDS,
malaria and tuberculosis
combined.
• The good news is that hunger is
entirely solvable. And it costs
just US$0.50 to provide vital
nutrition for one child for a day.
