Introducing the new ISO 19650 Building Information Modelling (BIM) training courses:
What is the ISO 19650 series of international standards?
ISO 19650 is the series of international standards for Building Information Modelling (BIM). It defines
the collaborative processes for the effective management of information throughout the delivery and
operational phase of assets when BIM is being used. Two new international standards have been launched
that supersede two existing UK standards for BIM (BS 1192:2007+A2:2016 and PAS 1192-2:2013).
Which BSI training courses are being upgraded?
This course will be renamed “ISO 19650 Part 2: Project
Delivery”. It’s being re-written to reflect the terminology
and clauses of the standard, but the principles will remain
the same.
Available from end of March
Building Information Modelling (BIM) PAS 1192 Part 2: Project Delivery
This course will be checked and adjusted but the
principles will remain the same.
Available from end of May
Building Information Modelling (BIM) Strategic Understanding
This course will be checked and adjusted but the
principles will remain the same.
Available from end of May
Building Information Modelling (BIM) Strategic Implementation
This course is being re-written to reflect the terminology
and clauses of the standard, but the principles will remain
the same.
Available from end of April
Building Information Modelling (BIM) Fundamentals and Principles (includes ISO 19650 and referencing to UK PAS Part 3 & 5, BS 1192 Part 4)
What has been withdrawn?BS 1192:2007+A2:2016 and PAS 1192-2:2013. Note these
standards will remain available but won’t be maintained.
Which training courses remain the same?
Building Information Modelling (BIM) PAS 1192 Part 3: Asset Management
Building Information Modelling (BIM) PAS 1192 Part 6: Health and Safety
Building Information Modelling (BIM) PAS 1192 Part 5: Security and BIM
Building Information Modelling (BIM) BS 1192 Part 4: Handover Information Exchange
Building Information Modelling (BIM) Digital Built Britain, BIM Level 3, IoT and Smart Cities
For UK clients
BS EN 19650-2 includes a UK National Annex
which references UK-specific content from the now
withdrawn standards.
The standards are available to buy from
www.bsishop.com, together with a transition
document PD19650-0:2019

What are the new standards? Why the move from UK to international standards?
The global construction industry is booming, bringing with it
global construction projects and the need for efficient tools
such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) for managing
information. Two new International Standards (ISO 19650
Parts 1 and 2) have just been published to enable BIM
to flourish across projects and borders, benefitting the
industry as a whole.

Course aim:
The aim of this course is to raise awareness of, and to explain the basic principles of BIM. This will enable delegates
to understand the concepts of BIM and how the UK is building its capability and approach to deliver “BIM Level 2”.
It also provides an introduction to the more detailed BSI courses which focus on specific aspects of
“BS EN ISO 19650” and the UK PAS 1192 series.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) Fundamentals Training Course
Course description:
This course will provide you with
an understanding of why “BIM
Level 2” has been adopted as a UK
Government requirement and how
BIM supports Lean principles to
reduce waste in construction and
asset management. This course will
provide an overview of the standards
that define UK BIM Implementation
and the fundamental processes of a
Common Data Environment (CDE).
This course will also help you
understand “BIM according to BS
EN ISO 19650” and “UK BIM Level 2”
from the perspective of clients and
customers. The role of information
in managing assets and projects
more efficiently and the tools defined
for this.
In addition, you’ll understand “BIM
according to BS EN ISO 19650” and
“UK BIM Level 2” from the perspective
of designers, constructors and supply
chain. Responding to the client’s
exchange information requirements
(EIR). Tools used in the supply chain
to manage and exchange information
(CDE, COBie, IFC).
Putting UK BIM Implementation into
the broader context of information
security, roles and responsibilities.
Reflecting on the impact delivery for
your organization and what next steps
need to be taken.
How will I benefit?
This course will help you:
• Understand the rationale behind
UK BIM Implementation and to put
this into the context of your own
organization
• Understand the range of
standards, tools and other
documents that define and
are used to implement UK BIM
Implementation
• Understand how BIM according
to BS EN ISO 19650” and “UK
BIM Level 2” helps asset owners
manage asset information
more effectively and helps
project sponsors and project
managers deliver better projects
(commercially and technically)
• Understand how all types of
suppliers (designers, constructors,
specialists, asset contractors)
respond to client requirements in
UK BIM level 2, and what technical
tools exist to support this,
including COBie and IFC
• See how “BIM according to BS EN
ISO 19650” and “UK BIM Level 2”
provides a framework for better
information security
• Understand the roles and
responsibilities associated with
“BIM according to BS EN ISO
19650” and “UK BIM Level 2”
• Understand what next steps you
need to take to be able to manage
assets or deliver projects following
the UK BIM Implementation.
The final session of the course
gives you the chance to reflect on
the topics covered and plan your
forward actions to help put UK BIM
Implementation into practice.
