Introducing Italian
It is with great delight that I am sharing with our school community the news that in 2020, we will be providing Italian lessons to all children in Years 4 - 6. Mrs Alicia Ninnes is a fully qualified LOTE Teacher and a very familiar face in our school. Alicia will be providing 45minute lessons on a weekly basis. Mrs Samantha Winterburn is a parent of our school community and this year relocated from Italy to Australia with her beautiful family. Samantha will be volunteering her time to teach the Italian basics to children in the early years. You may very well hear phrases such as:
Si. Yes.
No. No.
Per favore. Please.
Grazie. Thank you.
Prego. You're welcome.
Mi scusi. Excuse me.
Mi dispiace. I am sorry.
Buon giorno. Good morning.
Or, your child / children may be asking for pizza, lasagne or risotto to appear on the dinner menu!!!!
We are absolutely thrilled to be able to provide specialist Language lessons at our school. If you would like any further information regarding the lessons, please pop into the office.

We have reached that time of the year, when the Christmas season takes on a whole new level of joyful, yet frenetic activity. This time of the year can be filled with so much pressure and preparation behind making a “perfect” Christmas. I believe that we need to remind ourselves of the real meaning of Christmas. Christmas means so much more than receiving presents from loved ones. Christ!!! He is the reason for the season! Many times, children are caught up in the materialistic side of Christmas. This can overshadow the joy of Christmas by making us stress out about gifts, parties, and too much food. If you do encounter one of these scenarios, and you probably will, remember to stop and think about what God intended us to celebrate: the birth of His Son.

News from our Chaplain……
Thank you so much for your donations of non-perishables
to the SVDP charity who will make up food parcels for
Christmas. Many families will appreciate a hamper to
brighten their Christmas. Thank you to all children who
have attended weekend Mass and to those who served
with Fr Thomas. He loves to see all the little angels on the
altar and in the pews with their families who ‘grow’ the
congregation! The Mini Vinnies all went to Murroona
Gardens on Wednesday to sing carols to the residents for
Christmas. Thank you children for your wonderful
volunteer work in visiting the elderly throughout the year.
God Bless you!
The children have also attended Reconciliation today to
cleanse their souls in preparation for the coming of Christ
at Christmas.
Year 6 students experienced a retreat this week to bank
their memories of each other and the primary school they
are inevitably leaving behind. You are always welcome to
return and visit us here at St Mary’s Catholic School.
Are we feeding the flock with nurturing words and
actions? Are we gazing in wonder at the Lord?
