Language Acquisition: Theory & Practice We will review theories of first and second language acquisition with a particular focus on the Total Physical Response language teaching methodology. This course is intended for the following individuals: ! Current FN language teachers who are fluent
speakers. ! Certified teachers who are sufficiently fluent to
complete oral course work in the native language being taught.
! Classroom teachers who are partnered with language teachers
In this course you will learn how to: · identify and discuss developmental theories of language acquisition; · explain the development stages of language learning, i.e. critical periods and sequences; · identify and discuss the Total Physical Response language teaching methodology & TPR-Storytelling; · explore ways to promote language learning; · select and apply language acquisition theory to a practical situation; and · understand how to implement a variety of assessment models
This course will help you to: ! 1. Teach a second language using the Total
Physical Response teaching method ! 2. Increase students motivation and
decrease anxiety in the classroom ! 3. Organize content and plan lessons ! 4. Improve students’ self-concept and
achievement ! 5. Meet new people and have some fun!
