E-MAIL

Electronic mail, or e-mail

- allows computer users locally and worldwide to exchange messages. Each user

of e-mail has a mailbox address to which messages are sent.

- A powerful feature of e-mail is the option to send electronic files to a person¶s e-

mail address.

FTP

- is used to transfer data from one computer to another over the

Internet, or through a network.

Specifically, FTP is a commonly used protocol for exchangingfiles over any network that supports the TCP/IP protocol.



Telnet

is a user command and an underlying TCP/IP protocol for

accessing remote computers. Through Telnet, an

administrator or another user can access someone else's

computer remotely.



Usenet News

can be regarded as the oldest Internet application for global distribution of information. It originated in 1979 at the

University of North Carolina. It is simply a set of machines

(Usenet News Server s) which cooperate to exchange (using

NNTP ) articles tagged with one or more labels, which arecalled "newsgroups". Newsgroups are organized

hierarchically according to the subjects of the articles

belonging to them. Newsgroups or individual articles in

newsgroups can be addressed using a special URL scheme.



World Wide Web Protocol

1. HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)

HyperText

- is a document containing words that connect to

other documents.

- words are called links



Web Pages in WWW 1.Web Pages ± written as web pages.

- is a document on the World Wide Web.

Every Web page is identified by a unique

URL (Uniform Resource Locator).
