Intro to Hasidut

Modzitz and Music

- Rebbe Shemuel Eliyahu Taub of Modzitz

•   !" #$%"

• Wrote approx. 1000 nigunim

- unclear how many were/are really sung, but there all in Modzitz’s archive

- Connection between Mahshava and Dibur

• The idea of the KOL

- Different paths in Avodat Hashem

• Path of Torah: Some people, and groups, automatically put a strong emphasis on

limed torah. They still daven and the like, b/c that’s commanded by the torah, but

their whole emphasis is on Limud Torah.

• Path of Tefillah: His whole connection to ‘" is through Tefilla. He prays with lots of

Kavanah. He also learns torah, but it is not emphasized.

• Path of Acts of Kindness

• Path of Music and Song: Its a path of praise of God, specifically through music andsong.

- Modzitz essentially saw song and praise as its own form of Avodat HAshem.

- “Others say the World of song is next to the World of Teshuva. I say the World of

Song IS the World of Teshuva. Teshuva is achieved through song.”
