The global interventional neurology market is forecast to grow from $XXm in 2010 to $XXm in 2017 at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of XX%. The market expects to grow due to the increasing incidence of aneurysm disease globally. The market is also expected to be driven by increasing treatment options, the sophistication of the procedures available for treatment and improving imaging techniques for the early detection of aneurysms.
Embolic Systems are the Largest Market Segment
The embolic systems market is the largest segment in terms of market size and accounted for almost XX% of total revenue generated in 2010. Navigational systems, neurovascular stents and aneurysm clips were the other three segments of the interventional neurology market in 2010.
The embolic systems segment will continue to witness high growth and remain the largest segment. The global market for embolic systems is forecast to grow from $XXm in 2010 to about $XXm in 2017, at a CAGR of XX%. Development in endovascular treatment procedures, such as embolic coiling, liquid embolic systems and imaging techniques, will drive the global interventional neurology market.

The US market for interventional neurology was valued at $XXm in 2010 and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of XX% to reach $XXm in 2017. The US is the biggest market in the sector, making up XX% of the global interventional neurology market in 2010. In the US, demand for interventional neurology products is mainly driven by the development of embolization procedures. The market is expected to be driven by the increasing awareness about aneurysm causing diseases and treatment procedures. In the US, navigational systems were the largest market segment, valued at $XXm, in 2010. In 2017, the trend in the market will change and the embolic systems market will grow at a CAGR of XX% to be the largest segment, reaching $XXm.
Shift to Minimally Invasive Treatment is Driving the Interventional Neurology Market
The market is shifting towards minimally invasive treatment and away from surgical treatment options. This is increasing the market value of the endovascular treatment option for aneurysms. Instead of open operations, this minimally invasive technique uses X-ray imaging, catheters, and various embolic systems and neurovascular stents to treat diseases of the blood vessels of the brain and spine. The advantages of coil treatment include the speed of procedure and the use of an endovascular approach rather than craniotomy. This shift is also increasing treatment options for patients with multiple aneurysms, which can now be treated at the same time.

12.1 Definitions 12.1.1 Interventional Neurology Interventional neurology includes devices for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. This market includes devices used during the treatment of aneurysms
12.1.2 Embolic Systems Embolic systems include devices used to treat aneurysms and other blood vessel malformations called fistulas that occur in the brain. It comprises embolization coils and liquid embolic systems.
12.1.2.1 Embolization Coils
Embolisation coils are soft platinum wires which are inserted in the blood vessel and placed at the site of vessel malformation. The body responds by forming blood clots around the coil(s), which helps block the flow of blood into the bulge or passageway and keep the vessel from rupturing or leaking. One unit means one embolization coil.
12.1.2.2 Liquid Embolic Systems
Liquid embolic systems includes fluids used for therapeutic embolization and are administered via a pre-positioned microcatheter under continuous fluoroscopic monitoring. The segment includes cyanoacrylates and other embolic agents, which act by polymerization or precipitation. One unit means one 1ml liquid embolic vial.
12.1.3 Navigational Systems Navigational systems include devices that use percutaneous catheter technology and radiological imaging in treating diseases of the head and neck, spine and the central nervous system. It comprises guidewires, navigational catheters and PTA Balloons used specifically for intracranial navigation.
12.1.3.1 Guidewires
Guidewires are intended for general intravascular use, including neurovascular vasculature. It is used to selectively introduce and position catheters and other interventional devices within the neurovasculature. They are mainly used in the treatment of brain aneurysms. One unit consists of a single guidewire.
12.1.3.2 Navigational Catheters
Navigation catheters are used to assist the delivery of therapeutic agents and diagnostic agents, such as occlusion coils and contrast media into the neurovasculature. They are mainly used in the treatment of brain aneurysms. One unit consists of a single catheter.
12.1.4 Neurovascular Stents Neurovascular stents are small, metal mesh tubes used to support the walls of the arteries that have narrowed within the neck or the brain. One stent is considered as one unit.
12.1.5 Aneurysm Clips An aneurysm clip is a fabricated predetermined length of round metallic rod or wire used to isolate an aneurysm from the normal circulation without blocking off any small perforating arteries nearby. The clip works such as a tiny coil-spring clothespin, in which the blades of the clip remain tightly closed until pressure is applied to open the blades. Clips are made of titanium and remain on the artery permanently. One unit is one aneurysm clip
