CAMERAWORK AND EDITING

There is a similar pattern used in both videos as Madonna uses the same shot types and editing patterns when she is performing on stage as when there was a long shot of Marilyn Monroe there would be a long shot in Madonna’s Material girl as a way of ensuring that there is a clear link between the videos and meaning behind the lyrics. Moreover this is the same with editing the pace is kept quite slow to reflect the elegance and beauty they want to incorporate for the main females.

Although there are many links between the videos with the mise-en-scene the narrative and meaning behind the songs link well. As in the 1950-1960s there was an interest to classy women having money spent on them. Therefore Marilyn Monroe’s song was about how women disserve to be treated and need diamonds to be won over by a man. However by 1980 the times of how women are treated differently so Madonna’s song which was clearly influenced by Marilyn Monroe’s song, was about how women still want to be spoilt by their man even when they are material girls. Therefore after this Madonna was inspired so set out to use clear features in Marilyn Monroe’s video through using her mise-en-scene features.
