Interstate 5 Carpool Lane from Orange County Line to Interstate 605
Orange County has 10 Lanes Coming into Los Angeles County’s 6 Lanes
• The I-5 corridor is one of the most congested in the Los Angeles basin. • Connects California’s two largest counties, Los Angeles (population 10
million) and Orange (population 3 million). • A drop from 10 lanes in Orange County to six lanes in Los Angeles County
causes significant congestion and travel delays northbound.
This Project will Match Orange County’s Lanes to Los Angeles County’s Lanes • Widening and construction of a carpool lane and one general-purpose lane in
each direction between the Orange County Line and Interstate 605 (6.7 miles)
Project Cost • Corridor Mobility Program Request: $387,000,000 • Committed Non- Corridor Mobility Program Funding: $768,000,000* • Total Cost: $1,155,000,000 *$240 M Carmenita Interchange project is also separately funded from committed non-Corridor Mobility program funds
Project Partners • Federal Highway Administration; Caltrans; Metro; Orange County
