search data on stolen motor vehicles to

ASF – SMV(Automated Search Facility - Stolen Motor Vehicles)

7,2 million stolen cars stored

Over 77 million searches by 155 countries in 2012

(2012: about 40 million by 154 countries)

almost 93.000 recorded hits in 2012

(2012: about 42.000)

The ITFSMV was set up in 2009 after

positive feedback to INTERPOL‘s

operational support of vehicle operations

� Offering operational support for national law

enforcement agencies (on request)

Objectives:

� Lending expertise and tools (e.g. access to

different national databases)

� Establishing a network of vehicle experts

� Around 50 suspects arrested

(not exclusively in relation to vehicle crimes)

� Over 110 stolen vehicles identified and seized

� Over 10.000 vehicles checked

� 10 operations supported (Balkans, Cyprus,

Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain)

Outcomes

Currently, ITFSMV supports up to

three operations per year
