WHY?

We all spend a considerable amount of time on the internet, however, it can be a very powerful tool if used properly.

First – knowing how to CITE your work (we covered that last time, remember?)

Second – learning how to track your progress…

Review of MLA Formating

All citations are IN-TEXT and are AUTHOR-PAGE based.

So what do you do with an internet page? Most internet pages do not post their author,

but they do have paragraphs! So… Your citation will become TITLE-

PARAGRAPH based.

Example

The term “Indian” was first employed by Christopher Columbus when he arrived in 1642 thinking he was in India (“Indigenous Peoples of the Americas” par. 3).

Tracking your Research

My personal favourite tool is Diigo. Diigo is a SOCIAL BOOKMARKING site that

also allows you to highlight and post sticky notes on the pages you have visited.

Its best feature is still the bookmarking, because no matter what computer you go to – your bookmarks will follow you.

What I expect…

I am looking for some good COMPARATIVE research.

Which means finding several sources on the same topic and comparing the information you have found. Consider:

How old is the information? Is the source reliable? (Can it be trusted?) Did another site say something different?

What I expect…

You can use your common-place book for notes OR if you want to do your rough draft right away.

I am looking for about 300-500 words and between 5 to 10 sources.

Everything will have to be CITED and REFERENCED properly. (Good copy!)
