What is the internet?

The Internet is a global system of 

interconnected computer network that use to serve

billions of users worldwide.

It is a network of networks that consists of millions

of private, public, academic, business, and

government networks, of local to global scope, that

are linked by a broad array of electronic andoptical networking technologies.

The Internet is not the first medium of mass

communication. However, the Internet sheer 

convenience of having such a vast range of 

resources available on demand from one·s desktopand also the ease with which content consumers may

become content providers

Internet World Stats estimated 1.46 billion people,some 22% of the world·s population, had Internet

access as of June 2008

For the consumer the Internet provides an 

environment of near perfect competition in which

prices from many suppliers can be compared within 

seconds

e-commerce increases the variety of ways in which

business may be transacted.

The use of auction has become increasingly common 

with sites such as eBay permitting anyone to auction 

anything in a variety of auction styles.

These alternative business methods would not bepossible without the real-time information sharing

capabilities of the Internet.

and/or take such a business online-Enhancing a new business: essentially Internetbusinesses fall into two categories: physical anddigital goods

Impact on economy

From U.S. Government reports and media giants such as

the Wall Street Journal, The

New York Times, and CNN, Americans read and hear a

constant stream of reports that inrecent years the U.S. economy has performed beyond

most expectation

Playing an important role in this are a shrinking budget

deficit, low interest rates, a stable macro-economicenvironment, expanding international trade with fewer 

barriers, and effective private sector management.
